Job summary

Baker Hughes is seeking an R&D Project Engineer in the Lufkin area to drive design innovation and standards development for the Gears product range. You will support global teams with advanced simulations and data-driven optimization, ensuring timely delivery and accountability.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years as a mechanical engineer, strong CREO CAD skills, and experience in FEA/CFD, bearing calculations, and data analysis, with a collaborative, matrix-driven mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Execute projects within the Lufkin Gears range on time and within budget.
  • Develop and maintain CAD templates and automations with FR/UK teams.
  • Support calculations (FEA, CFD, bearings) and data analysis.
  • Propose tools and methods to improve designs and efficiency.
  • Participate in design reviews and engineering/site improvement actions.

R&D Project Engineer

As an R&D Project Engineer (M/F), you will be responsible for executing projects within the Lufkin Gears product range. This includes meeting delivery deadlines, managing profit and loss, and ensuring accountability requirements are met. You will also focus on customer satisfaction by efficiently managing project activities.

As an R&D Project Engineer, you will be responsible for:
  • Developing, updating, and maintaining CAD templates and automations used by Lufkin Gears design offices in collaboration with FR and UK Teams.

  • Contributing to the development of new standards and design rules within the "NPI & NPD" framework

  • Supporting the design offices with specific calculations (FEA, CFD, bearings, etc.)

  • Managing and analyzing data

  • Conducting applied research, studies, development work, analyses, testing, and implementing innovations

  • Proposing new/updated calculation tools used by the engineering department to save time and optimize designs

  • Defining and monitoring calculation methods in line with evolving standards and technologies

  • Defining development tasks related to existing or new products, starting from engineering requests from product managers

  • Participating in technical group consultation sessions (internal/external)

  • Participating in design reviews for complex or new equipment (based on level of experience)

  • Participating in engineering and site improvement actions.

Fuel your passion

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanical engineer or similar position.

  • Have a good knowledge of Lufkin Gears products.

  • Be skilled in CAD techniques (full or partial proficiency in CREO).

  • Be proficient in mechanical calculation methods (analytic, FEA...).

  • Have a good knowledge in various programming languages is an advantage.

  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to lead programs/projects.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Be able to work in a matrix organization, as part of a team, demonstrating inclusiveness and collaboration.
