TE Connectivity is seeking a Ph.D. intern in the Global Technology group in Fremont, CA, to support advanced materials analysis and R&D innovation within the Corporate Technology Center (CTC). The role focuses on hands-on testing, data analysis, and reporting on polymeric materials and related formulations.

The ideal candidate is a Ph.D. student in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, or Polymer Science, with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and available for a 10–12 week internship during May–August.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Ph.D., preferably in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in major.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Prior internship experience or major project is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge and hands-on experience with SEM/EDS, XRF, Raman, TGA, DSC, and other instruments.
  • Document experiments and procedures, analyze data, and report findings.
  • Work independently in a hands-on lab environment and collaborate with internal/external customers.

Job Overview

At TE Connectivity, you’ll help create a safer, sustainable, productive and connected future. As an Intern in our Global Technology Business Unit, you’ll support advanced materials analysis and R&D innovation within our Corporate Technology Center (CTC).

We are seeking an energetic and creative Ph.D. student in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, or a related field to:

  • Perform hands-on testing using a variety of analytical instruments.
  • Support advanced material analysis for R&D projects and internal customers.
  • Analyze results and prepare technical test reports.
  • Solve problems creatively while working independently in a hands-on laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge and hands on experience with SEM/EDS, XRF, Raman, TGA, DSC, Rotational Rheometer, DMA, Capillary Rheometer, TGA-GC/MS, FTIR
  • Document experiments and procedures, analyze experimental data, report findings, and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Gain knowledge and hands on experience with polymeric materials, physical properties, formulation, and/or processing and understanding of structure-property relationships.
  • Are willing to conduct literature searches and perform scouting activities on technologies material formulation to be tested at the CTC labs.
  • Demonstratability to understand, analyze, and evaluate a wide variety of complex material issues.
  • Innovative problem-solving ability
  • Demonstratability to work withina team environment.
  • Are able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills
  • Are pursuing a Ph.D., preferably in Analytical Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field of study
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in major

You’re the kind of person we are looking for if you:

  • Have earned a high school diploma or GED
  • Are currently enrolled in, or pursuing, a PhD Degree in Chemistry, Plastics/Polymer Engineering or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university—or have equivalent work experience (gap year students may also be considered).
  • Preferably have prior internship experience or have completed a major project
  • Are authorized to work in the U.S.

Compensation
  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $37.29 - 57.15/hour (subject to change dependent on physical location)
  • Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.

TE Connectivity recruits on campus between September and March for New Grad (FT), Rotational, Internship and Co-op positions beginning in May. Once you have applied to a position, your resume and application will be reviewed. If you are selected to move to the next step in the application process, you will be contacted by a recruiter. Once you accept an offer, the onboarding process will begin in January for interns who have committed to offers in the fall semester and upon acceptance for interns who have committed to offers in the spring semester.
