R&D Mechanical Engineering Manager I

Location: Arden Hills, MN (Onsite)

Division: Neuromodulation

Boston Scientific Neuromodulation technologies help patients manage chronic pain and neurological conditions, including WaveWriter Alpha Spinal Cord Stimulator Systems and Vercise Genus Deep Brain Stimulation Systems.

We collaborate with physicians and patients to develop meaningful, industry-leading, customizable solutions to improve quality of life globally.

Role Overview:

Lead a team of engineers in researching, designing, developing, and improving medical devices.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the R&D engineering team for device development, including existing and disruptive solutions.
  2. Utilize cross-functional input to develop therapeutic implant requirements and shape the product portfolio strategy.
  3. Establish a 10-year vision and accelerate near-term projects aligning with industry direction.
  4. Drive an agile product lifecycle process for neuromodulation projects.
  5. Manage performance goals, portfolio investments, budgets, and strategic growth initiatives.
  6. Support business development, external product and technology evaluation, and IP creation.
  7. Provide vision, prioritize projects, and allocate resources.
  8. Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve technical issues and foster a culture of innovation and high performance.
  9. Support diversity, inclusivity, and team development to meet organizational objectives.
  10. Ensure budgets and schedules meet business needs.
  11. Engage with physicians, patients, and other stakeholders for feedback.
  12. Deliver innovative designs meeting performance, standards, and manufacturability goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  2. 7+ years in engineering, with experience in new product development.
  3. Hands-on design engineering experience in medical devices.
  4. 3+ years in leadership/management of engineering teams.
  5. Experience managing complex projects and knowledge of statistical analysis.
  6. Global mindset with experience in international markets.
  7. Willingness to work onsite at Arden Hills, MN (4+ days/week).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience fostering engagement and high-performance cultures.
  2. Experience with customer engagement, clinical trials, and product portfolio management.
  3. Proven ability to lead change and build stakeholder relationships.
  4. Experience developing diverse talent and managing vendor relationships.
  5. Passion for continuous improvement, learning, and innovation.
