Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking an R&D S&E Mechanical Engineer to join the Purchased Product Value Stream. You will act as the technical interface to product realization teams and the commercial supply base for mechanical parts in nuclear weapon design, development, and production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.
• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience with mechanical engineering and product realization in the NNSA complex.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; multidisciplinary teamwork.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment.
• Knowledge of DFM, Lean/Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and additive manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead the identification, development, and qualification of suppliers, assessing technical capabilities.
• Lead efforts to improve understanding of material requirements and define verification plans.
• Anticipate and manage risk (sole sources, sunset materials, technology development).
• Oversee product design definition through the lifecycle (design–development–delivery).
• Develop and manage verification/qualification plans and acceptance criteria.
• Coordinate multiple internal and external interfaces.
