Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a highly motivated R&D Mechanical Engineer to support cargo restraint design for high-security assets in the Transportation Safeguards and Surety Program. You will develop, analyze, and integrate cargo restraints and tie-downs for transporting critical assets.

Daily tasks include CAD-driven research, design validation, and collaboration with SMEs to ensure mission success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent
• Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent
• Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with independent research
• Experience in the NNSA complex and strong communication in multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

• Use engineering principles and CAD tools to research, design, or develop complex hardware sets to demonstrate cargo securement methodologies and designs.
• Troubleshoot existing tie-down schema to resolve technical or requirement deficiencies and evaluate and update as necessary.
• Conceptualize, design, analyze, and manage product realization of new tie-down schema for the next generation of cargo fixtures and restraints.
• Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure success of the transportation mission.
• Present concepts, designs, test data, analysis results, and status to management and team members.
• Provide on-site or remote support for responding agencies in secure transportation events.
