Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to think critically, organize tasks, and manage multiple tasks with high quality.
• Team collaboration and clear communication with project progress updates.

Responsibilities

• Exposure to design, develop, analyze, and document product designs meeting functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements.
• Learn to work in an Agile environment, pull backlog items, and deliver to acceptance criteria.
• Contribute to conformance to Product Technical Specifications and international standards using DFSS and design for reliability.
• Create and maintain User stories in Azure DevOps with supporting technical documentation.
• Use solid modeling software (PTC Creo/Windchill) to create models, drawings, and BOMs for various parts.
• Prepare and maintain product documentation, manuals, design/test documentation, and regulatory standards.

As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain practical experience through various projects. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB’s operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.

The work model for the role is onsite/hybrid in Bloomfield, CT.

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Get exposure to design, develop, analyze, and document product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the Service Low Voltage Retrofit Markets.
• Learn to work in Agile environment, pull backlog items and deliver them to acceptance criteria requirements, proactively engaging with R&D Project Leader in case of impediments.
• As a contributing team member, demonstrate conformance to Product Technical Specifications and international standards using Design for Six Sigma and Design for Reliability methodologies. Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
• Learn, create and maintain User stories in Azure devops with supporting technical documentation for all design work and present material for technical reviews including but not limited to tolerance loops, drawings, bill of materials, product cost, problem and action lists, risk management, and failure root cause analysis reviews in an Agile environment
• Learn and execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts.
• Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks, design and test documentation and learning Regulatory standards UL, CSA and NEC.
• Actively participate in design reviews, analyze concepts, and cost effectiveness of the Mechanical/Electrical designs.
• Support engineering cross-functional team collaboration and activities with purchasing and manufacturing. Assist Purchasing in supplier selection and component evaluation.
• Participate in team meetings, brainstorming sessions, and other collaborative efforts to understand individual contributions and working in team environment dynamics.
• Seeking feedback and guidance from manager and team members to improve performance and skills.

Qualifications for the role:

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master’s degree program in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering in the United States.
• Intern must have reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future.
• Utilize critical thinking skills to analyze complex situations and develop strategic solutions.
• Effectively organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
• Exhibit the capability to manage several tasks at once while maintaining high standards of quality.
• Collaborate with team members to convey ideas, share information, and provide updates on project progress.

The hourly rate is determined by things such as the successful applicant’s qualifications, graduation year and experience. This position is expected to pay between $20 - $34 per hour.
