Job summary

Sargent Aerospace & Defense is seeking a Research & Development Engineer focused on hydraulic systems and acoustics. You will design and execute lab and field tests, develop models, and diagnose and improve hydraulic products while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and product management teams.

The role emphasizes experimental testing, data analysis, and clear technical communication. A PhD and strong background in acoustics and dynamics are required for this senior position.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• Strong understanding of fluid power systems, system dynamics, vibration, acoustics.
• Experience conducting experimental testing and troubleshooting complex engineering systems.
• Experience acquiring, processing, and analyzing engineering data.
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude demonstrated through projects.
• Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing within a team.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute laboratory and field testing of hydraulic components and systems.
• Develop models to evaluate performance and support product development.
• Interpret hydraulic schematics and P&IDs to relevant standards.
• Operate data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
• Analyze test data and correlate results to models and theory.
• Prepare reports, procedures, analyses, and design documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support development and sustainment.
• Design test fixtures, tooling, and prototype hardware.
