Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking an Associate Research and Development Technologist in Smithfield, VA to drive innovation and improve formulations.

You will support projects from bench-top concepts to full commercialization while managing online formulation data and supplier alignment. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensure regulatory compliance with USDA/FDA guidelines, and contribute to cost optimization through processing improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science or equivalent required.
• Eligible current students with anticipated graduation may qualify.
• Strong knowledge of meat and non-meat ingredients and functionality.
• Ability to work with pilot plant equipment with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Support product development from bench concepts to commercialization.
• Manage formulations and product data using online systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Business, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing and Engineering.
• Develop skills through training and ensure compliance with USDA/FDA regulations.
