Job Title

R&D Engineer, Mechanical

Job Description

Your role:

Develop and maintain structural designs for superconducting MRI magnet systems, including cryogenic vessels, cryostats, coil structures, and mechanical support systems. Experience with 3D modeling software such as Autodesk Inventor or similar is beneficial.

  • Ability to solve complex structural problems by creating models or analyses to predict static/dynamic loads and stresses using hand calculations, numerical methods, and FEA to guide design decisions. Relevant experience includes use of ANSYS, Matlab, Mathcad, Python or similar programming tools.
  • Define and execute engineering mitigation activities, including requirements management, FMEA, test planning, prototype test development, data acquisition, analysis, and technical documentation. Hands on experience with test hardware, software and material fabrication methods is valuable.
  • Support prototype development and product industrialization by working with suppliers and manufacturing on component fabrication, supplier qualification, design implementation, and resolution of manufacturing challenges. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.
  • Provide mechanical engineering expertise across the product lifecycle, collaborating with Systems Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Service, and other disciplines to resolve technical and field issues and deliver robust designs. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

You’re the right fit if:

  • You’ve acquired 4+ years of experience with Vocational Education in areas such as System Architecture, System Design, Hardware Engineering or equivalent.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Physics or equivalent.
  • You have experience applying engineering principles to solve complex problems related to multi-disciplinary technical systems
  • You have skills that include Mathcad, SINDA/FLUINT, Thermal Desktop, SINAPS, ANSYS APDL, ANSYS Workbench, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Spaceclaim, LabView, Matlab
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

This is an Office role.
