Job summary

Fusion is seeking an experienced R&D Engineer to support a Counter‑Weapons of Mass Destruction program for the IC and DoD. The role focuses on reverse engineering facilities, developing methodologies, tools and products to aid deliberate planning for WMD targets.

Required: DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance with CI Poly, US citizenship, and 5+ years in relevant infrastructure design or defense environments. Travel up to 5% may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years designing, managing, or maintaining installation and facility infrastructure in relevant industries.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assessments of industrial facilities and hardened structures.
  • Perform engineering calculations.
  • Conduct vulnerability analysis and identify critical nodes.
  • Collaborate with modeling and simulation SMEs on disruption strategies.
  • Develop reconstitution estimates for damaged infrastructure.
  • Support test operations to validate methodologies.
  • Travel up to 5%.

Position Summary

Fusion is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated R&D Engineer to join our team supporting a Counter‑Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) program for the Intelligence Community (IC) and Department of Defense (DoD). This position will work as part of a team responsible for reverse engineering facilities and developing new methodologies, tools and products to support deliberate planning and crisis operations for the full-dimensional defeat of aboveground and belowground WMD‑related hard targets.


Security Clearance Requirement


  • Active DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance with final CI Poly is required

  • Must be a US citizenship and able to pass extensive background checks.


Required Skills and Qualifications


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, managing, and/or maintaining installation and facility infrastructure within the chemical, energy, oil, biotechnical, pharmaceutical, or defense industries

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce technical reports and presentations and deliver briefings to both technical and non‑technical personnel.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide technical assessments of systems for industrial facilities and hardened structures, including infrastructure and equipment layouts

  • Perform engineering calculations

  • Conduct vulnerability analysis and identify critical nodes

  • Conduct system analysis to understand upstream and downstream effects on industrial processes and other utility systems

  • Collaborate with modeling and simulation SMEs to develop models that determine how to disrupt and/or defeat the functions of various mechanical systems or equipment

  • Develop reconstitution estimates for mechanical infrastructure or equipment that has been damaged or destroyed

  • Support test operations to validate developed methodologies and tools

  • Travel: Up to 5% travel required


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field. At least five (5) years of directly related operational experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree

  • Working knowledge of utility systems, including industrial water, wastewater, power, inert gas, compressed/instrument air, hydraulic, industrial controls, and/or fuel systems


Desired Qualifications

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred but not required:



  • Engineering or utility operations for an installation, facility or vessel (i.e. ship’s engine room)

  • Nuclear, chemical, petrochemical or manufacturing facilities

  • Industrial plant and processing operations, including process startup, operations, and safety
