Job summary

Abbott is seeking an engineer to provide technical support for new and existing products, processes, and fixtures at our Woodridge location. You will apply engineering principles to solve problems with guidance from a technical lead, contributing to projects in the Structural Heart division.

Responsibilities include developing concepts from design to market release, coordinating activities, documenting results, and using SolidWorks for component and fixture design.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, biological sciences, or equivalent experience.
• 0-2 years of related work experience.
• Experience working within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
• Strong verbal and written communications with ability to communicate at multiple levels.
• Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.

Main Purpose to the Role

• Provides engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools.
• Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems with some guidance from technical lead or manager.
• Supports continuous quality improvement and may serve as technical lead for individual projects (component/subassembly).

What You’ll Work On

• Researches, develops, designs, and evaluates mechanical materials, components, assemblies, processes and/or equipment.
• Conducts feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality.
• Develops new concepts from initial design to market release.
• Coordinates project activities.
• Write and submit intellectual property (patents).
• Maintains detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
• Investigates and evaluates existing technologies.
• Reviews or coordinates vendor activities to support development.
• Establishes and cultivates an extensive network of support to facilitate completion of assignments.
• May interact with vendors.
• Plans and organizes non-routine tasks w/approval.
• Initiates or maintains work schedule.
• Establishes priorities of work assignments.
• Exercises judgment in selecting innovative, practical methods to achieve problem resolution.
• Involved in test method and model development.
• Troubleshoots, investigates, and resolves problems involving techniques, materials, equipment, part and sub-assembly design; documents justification or rationale as needed.
• Provides input into dFMEA, pFMEA and risk analyses. Identifies and mitigates sub-assembly risks.
• Supports improvement of products, processes, and/or design tools to be employed for investigation and design development.
• Utilizing SolidWorks to design components, assemblies, and testing fixtures.

Required Qualifications

The base pay for this position is $50,700.00 – $101,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
