Job summary

Ammobia is seeking an R&D Engineer to advance materials and reaction platforms from lab to pilot scales. You will design, source, and synthesize new catalysts and sorbents; design and test reactor systems; and scale innovations to TRL 6 pilot systems.

You will work at the heart of Ammobia’s R&D program, developing next-gen reaction processes and proving them commercially. You’ll wear many hats, move fast, and build/run systems hands-on.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of thermodynamics, kinetics, and heat/mass transport.
• Expertise in heterogeneous catalysis, gas sorption, and/or reaction engineering.
• Experience transferring R&D designs to pilot scales.
• Experience developing test plans and data outputs for reactor and chemical processes.
• Hands-on with designing/building custom research and pilot scale equipment, incl. automation.
• Experience working with technicians to execute test plans.
• Proficient in Python and/or MATLAB for time-series data analysis.
• Knowledge of reactor modeling and design equations.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Startup experience and passion for early-stage companies.
• 3+ years in relevant industrial setting.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and manage tests on advanced reactor systems and materials characterization systems.
• Transfer lab learnings to pilot demonstration and develop test campaigns.
• Design/optimize catalysts, sorbents, and composite materials.
• Develop models of gas-solid reactions and link ex-situ to in-reactor performance.
• Collaborate with a small team of scientists, engineers, and technicians.
• Develop IP across materials, process, and reactor development.
• Ensure safe work practices and promote lab safety culture.
