Job summary

MMA Design in Boulder, CO is seeking an experienced R&D Engineer to develop innovative deployable mechanical systems and antenna payload solutions, supporting the company’s technology roadmap and product portfolio.

The role requires a self-motivated problem-solver with 5+ years of engineering experience, hands-on prototyping, testing, and design verification, CAD proficiency (SolidWorks/MATLAB), and the ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering; Master’s preferred.
5+ years in product development or research.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
Experience developing mechanical systems or deployable hardware.
Hands-on prototyping and testing experience.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ROI awareness.
Proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks) and MATLAB.
Excellent written and verbal communication for technical reporting.
Willingness to travel occasionally for testing.

Responsibilities

Design, prototype, and test products from concept to production readiness.
Conduct research to identify emerging technologies to improve performance or reduce cost.
Tap into market research to understand industry needs and gaps.
Plan and execute experiments, document results, and present findings.
Develop models, drawings, and technical documentation to support designs.
Analyze test data and iterate on designs to meet requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to transition designs to production.
Troubleshoot issues and drive implementation.
Maintain awareness of industry trends and opportunities for innovation.
Ensure compliance with standards, policies, and safety guidelines.
Support business development with proposals and grants.
