Job summary

Rust-Oleum is seeking an R&D Technical Director to oversee the entire R&D group, directing discovery, innovation, scale-up, and commercialization of cost-effective, high-quality technologies. You will plan projects, manage staff, and coordinate with marketing to respond quickly to market opportunities while defending the company against competitive threats.

Qualifications

• M.S. or equivalent science degree in Chemistry with strong knowledge of organic chemistry.
• 10 years of technical experience in product development, with expertise in coatings.
• 5 years of technical supervisory or management experience.
• 3 years of working experience with marketing teams.
• Expertise in coatings for consumer and industrial markets (waterborne and solventborne).
• Strong understanding of manufacturing, quality assurance, scale-up, regulatory matters, and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Plan laboratory experiments to confirm feasibility of production processes.
• Confer with customers to tailor materials to their needs.
• Conduct research on structures and properties of coatings and polymers to develop new products or enhancements.
• Prepare reports of materials study findings for other R&D associates and requestors.
• Devise testing methods to evaluate effects of various conditions on coatings.
• Determine ways to strengthen or combine materials or develop new materials with desired properties.
• Test individual parts and products to ensure compliance with standards.
• Assign staff to projects and present technologies to the business group.
