Seagate Technology invites applications for the Summer 2027 R&D Data Analytics, AI and Production Systems Internship. Based at Normandale, Bloomington, MN, you’ll modernize Linux cluster workflows, build data-monitoring systems, and prototype AI solutions with Python and Rust.

This internship seeks Masters or PhD students continuing into Fall 2027, with hands-on data and software engineering in a high-technology R&D setting.

Qualifications

• Programming experience with Python for data processing, automation, APIs, testing, or analytics applications.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational data concepts (queries, joins, validation, performance).
• Experience using Linux and command-line tools for development, data processing or compute workloads.
• Understanding of software engineering practices (Git, modular design, debugging, testing, documentation).
• Familiarity with data pipelines, production monitoring, observability, or workflow automation.
• Foundational knowledge of ML, statistics, or AI application development.

Responsibilities

• Modernize and improve Linux cluster management and data-analytics production workflows.
• Develop monitoring capabilities showing production data volume, flow, processing status, throughput, failures and resource use.
• Analyze production workflows to identify bottlenecks, repetitive steps, reliability risks, and automation opportunities.
• Design and implement dashboards, alerts, logs, and operational metrics for production health and data quality.
• Prototype frontier AI solutions, including LLM apps translating natural-language questions into safe SQL queries.
• Explore RCA methods using causal analysis, statistics, ML, and engineering knowledge.
• Develop maintainable Python and Rust software with testing, docs, and version control.
• Collaborate with R&D engineers, data analysts, and infra partners to define requirements and communicate findings.
