Job summary

Yoh, a Day & Zimmermann company, is seeking an experienced R&D Cosmetic Chemist (OTC) in Southern California to develop and reformulate cosmetic products, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive innovation in personal care formulations. The role requires deep knowledge of cosmetic materials, emulsion tech, and bench experience in a fast-paced environment.

You will collaborate with QA, regulatory, and suppliers to deliver cutting-edge formulas and ensure product safety and performance for the US

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or higher degree in chemistry or related field.
• Color formulation experience.
• Creative thinking, technical writing and organizational skills.
• At least 6 years and more of industry experience on the bench formulating.
• Knowledge of cosmetic/personal care raw materials, functionality, and interactions.
• Understanding of emulsion and surfactant technology as well as general formulation techniques.
• Must be familiar with regulation for US market and other countries for globally approved formulas, especially for the natural and organic market (NSF, USDA/NOP, NPA).

Responsibilities

• Develop new formulas and reverse engineered formulas based on customer briefs and price targets.
• Reformulate and improve existing formulas.
• Follow trends with new product launches, ingredients and concepts such as 8 from claims; familiarize with formulation restrictions.
• Be familiar with cosmetic ingredients, their function, delivery system, and interactions.
• Meet with suppliers and maintain product files (clinical and regulatory).
• Work on innovation, create new textures and actives to keep R&D at the cutting edge.
• Assist regulatory by providing ingredient information.
• Maintain GLP-compliant laboratory practices.
