Job summary

Mativ is seeking an innovative R&D Lab Technician to join our team in New Berlin, WI. You will work closely with Research and Development, Engineering, and Quality to support coating formulations and test methods, performing hands-on lab tasks and maintaining accurate records.

The role emphasizes safety, organization, and the ability to operate in a dynamic production environment, with responsibilities split between lab work and lab maintenance as outlined in the description.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work in a lab and manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma with relevant lab experience.
• Proficient using MS Office.
• Strong organizational skills with good attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a dynamic and fluid production environment.
• Follows safety guidelines and handles chemicals according to safety protocols.
• Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot.

Responsibilities

• Lab work including coating formulations and evaluating end properties.
• Weighing and mixing chemicals to create liquid coatings.
• Performing drawdowns of coatings with a Mayer Rod onto film samples.
• Assisting with product testing (optical qualities, peel adhesion, thickness measurements, chemical resistance, surface energy).
• Maintaining a laboratory notebook and entering information into electronic systems (Excel, company programs).
• Preparing samples for potential customers with proper labeling and safety documents.
• Disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous waste into appropriate containers.
• Maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment (5S).
• Completing monthly safety trainings and updating SDS records.
• Updating chemical inventory and documenting new chemicals.
