Job summary

Schluter Systems L.P. seeks a Research & Development Engineer to drive new product development and improve existing products within cross-functional teams.

You will work with peers to define requirements, evaluate designs, prototypes, and first parts, while exploring new technologies for potential use in future products. Responsibilities include drafting parts files, production drawings, vendor drawing evaluation, and documentation.

• Good 3D CAD skills with SolidWorks proficiency.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver quality results on time.
• Excellent communication, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Create Parts Files for Schluter Systems products.
• Create Product Development Drawings with R&D Engineers.
• Convert drawings to Production drawings with R&D/Manufacturing Engineers.
• Evaluate Product Production Drawings provided by vendors.
• Create Customer Part Drawings with R&D/Engineering collaboration.
• Prototype using a 3D Printer to support design evaluation.
• Support manufacturing implementation of new products and improvements.
• Maintain strict CAD file organization per internal standards.
• Represent Schluter Systems professionally in all matters.

Description

The Research & Development Engineer will be responsible for the development of new products and improvement of existing products within cross-functional project teams. They will collaborate with teammates to develop and evaluate product requirements, specifications, designs, prototypes, and first parts. They will participate in research projects to evaluate new technologies for potential implementation in new and improved products. They will also support other areas of the business as required, such as Production, Quality Control, Technical Services, and others.

Drafting

• Create Parts Files for existing Schluter Systems products where required
• Create Product Development Drawings for new products in cooperation with R&D Engineers
• Convert Product Development Drawings to Product Production Drawings in cooperation with R&D and Manufacturing Engineers
• Evaluate and modify Product Production Drawings supplied by vendors
• Convert Product Production Drawings to Customer Part Drawings in cooperation with R&D Engineers/Technical Services/Marketing
• Create Parts and/or Assembly Drawings for laboratory testing equipment, layouts, etc.

Support

• Support R&D Engineers evaluation of product designs by creating prototypes using 3D Printer
• Support Manufacturing Engineers implementation of new products manufacturing and maintenance or improvements of existing manufacturing operations as required
• Support Technical Services creation of Assembly Drawings as required

Data Organization

• Maintain strict organization of Schluter Systems CAD files per internal document control standards and policies

Other

• Support other areas of the business with CAD work as required
• Represent Schluter Systems L.P. in a professional, positive and enthusiastic manner in all matters

Requirements

• Computer skills: 3D CAD (preferably Solidworks), Microsoft Office, etc.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to plan and execute a variety of tasks and deliver quality results in a timely fashion
• Must be able to approach challenges independently, while still asking for guidance or support as required
• Must thrive in a collaborative environment, capable of working within teams to achieve common goals
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
