Job summary

UT-Battelle's Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks an early career R&D Assistant to support the Sensors and Electronics Group within the EEID division. The role focuses on particle accelerators, electronics, pulsed power, and energy systems, combining simulations with experimental validation.

You will perform simulations, develop workflows, assist in hardware integration, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• At least two years of relevant experience.
• Experience with scientific programming and data analysis using Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar.
• Strong technical writing and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform particle tracking simulations to support design and interpretation of advanced research.
• Develop and maintain computational workflows and software tools to improve efficiency.
• Design, assemble, and execute lab experiments to validate simulation results.
• Analyze experimental and simulation data and document findings.
• Develop, integrate, test, and troubleshoot electronic systems and instrumentation.
• Prepare technical documentation including reports, proposals, and journal manuscripts.
• Adhere to safety, security, and QA requirements while operating lab equipment.
