Job summary

Santa Clara University invites applications for quarterly lecturers in Computer Science and Engineering for the 2026-2027 academic year.

QLs may teach undergraduate or graduate CS/CE courses and may accrue up to 4 course equivalents per year (no more than 2 per quarter) plus up to 2 CE in summer. Classes run fall, winter, spring, with various time slots including mornings and evenings.

• Demonstrated excellence in teaching computer science and engineering at undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Responsibilities

• Assign and evaluate/grade student work.
• Be available to students for consultation outside of class.
• Assign student grades on time to the Office of Student Records.
• Conduct course assessments as required by the department.

Purpose

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering seeks applications for quarterly lecturers (QLs) for the 2026-2027 academic year to teach Computer Science and Engineering courses. Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system. Each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) is 10 weeks long, with an extra week for final examinations. Graduate classes are typically held during the 7:10-9:00 a.m., 5:25-7:15 p.m., and 7:25-9:15 p.m. time slots. Undergraduate classes are held at various times throughout the day (Monday-Friday). QLs are allowed to teach up to 4-course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year with no more than 2 CEs in any particular quarter. Additionally, QLs are allowed to teach an additional 2 CEs during the summer terms. Generally, course equivalencies are:

• UNDERGRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE, 1 unit lab = 0.5 CE, 1 unit lab with a teaching assistant (TA) = 0.25 CE
• GRADUATE: 4 unit lecture = 1 CE, 2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE

Basic Qualifications

• Earned graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in computer science, computer engineering, or a closely related field. At a minimum, candidates should hold a Master's degree with equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching computer science and engineering at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level.
