Job summary

The Quarry Supervisor at Mountain Cement Company leads mining operations in collaboration with the Quarry Manager for our new cement plant in the United States. You will guide safety, production, and regulatory compliance, leveraging automation to optimize performance and long-term results.

We seek a candidate with a bachelor’s degree in geology or mine engineering/planning and 3–5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.

Overview:

The Quarry Supervisor is responsible for guiding the mining operations in concert with the Quarry Manager. This involves meeting and exceeding the goals of the department while conforming to applicable health & safety and environmental regulations. Basic qualifications and/or traits a MCC Quarry Supervisor must have are:

  • A thorough knowledge & understanding of all aspects of the mining process.
  • Ability to lead by example and motivate others.
  • Integrity and ethics
  • A basic knowledge of rules and regulations that govern mining operations; this includes MSHA regulations, Wyoming DEQ/LQD regulations and Wyoming Environmental Quality Act guidelines, and Federal environmental guidelines.
  • The ability to communicate effectively through writing and speaking; also, the ability to listen.
  • Willingness to assist in establishing well-defined measurable goals for the department, as well as willingness to communicate these objectives clearly to the hourly employees and track the progress towards achieving these goals.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems through gathering information, critical thinking, and generating and evaluating alternatives. This occurs on many scales; hour-by-hour through year-to-year, and beyond.
  • Adaptability; the individual must be flexible enough to change at the pace of the cement manufacturing industry.
  • Ability to delegate tasks and trust they will be completed, must be willing and able to hold themselves accountable and their subordinates accountable for job performance.
  • An understanding of quarrying concepts; stripping, drilling & blasting, and mobile equipment operations.
  • Ability to handle stress related to duties of a supervisor, including meeting deadlines and addressing personnel/equipment issues; and managing conflicts.
Responsibilities:

The Quarry Supervisor is a frontline supervisor who is responsible for all aspects of the mining process. The supervisor will work afternoon/evening hours, Monday through Friday; and will be on-call every other weekend. The individual’s responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to the following:

  • Ensuring compliance with MSHA, State of Wyoming, and Company Safety Rules and Regulations at all times. This would include conducting periodic safety meeting and spot checks of employees.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations at all times.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Wyoming Environmental Quality Act and WDEQ-issued mine permits.
  • Meeting and exceeding quarry production needs while complying to and advancing company and corporate goals, objectives, and values.
  • Providing dependable leadership that establishes clear and measurable goals for the quarry personnel. This individual is also responsible for providing feedback to the quarry personnel, analyzing feedback from the quarry personnel, and further communicating the feedback to the Quarry Manager.
  • Solving problems through identifying them, analyzing them, generating solutions and alternatives, and then putting the solutions into action.
  • Becoming familiar with the company’s mine and reclamation plans in order to direct the work in the quarries on a day-to-day, short term, and long term basis. This includes the ability to apply the use of mine plan maps, geologic maps, and topographic maps in the real world conditions.
  • Understanding the several steps of the mining process: topsoil stripping/stockpiling, overburden stripping/stockpiling, drilling & blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, backfilling, topsoiling, re-seeding. This would include being familiar with the personnel demands and equipment related to each.
  • Directing the work of contractors and ensuring their compliance with safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements:

The Quarry Supervisor will have formal/technical education that allows them to fulfill the responsibilities above, along with the following, ideally:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with schooling in the areas of geology or mine engineering/planning, and computer mapping preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing/industrial setting preferred.
