Job summary

The Shelly Company, a CRH Company, seeks a plant operator to assist the Foreperson and operate heavy equipment at our Ohio facility. You will perform daily production duties and may be expected to join Local 18 IUOE within 60 days of employment.

Responsibilities include operating haul trucks, loaders, and skid steers, conducting daily pre-trip inspections, and supporting maintenance and cleanup of plant equipment. Safety and teamwork are essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Must join Local 18 IUOE within 60 days of employment.

  • Works as a team member with other employees to ensure safe operation.
  • Operates Haul Truck, Loader, Skid Steer and other equipment.
  • Performs a pre-trip inspection and reports issues to foreperson.

  • Performs other duties as requested by Plant Manager/Superintendent/Foreperson.

Position Overview

To assist the Foreperson with daily production duties by operating various pieces of heavy equipment and performing other miscellaneous plant related functions. Employee must join Local 18 IUOE within 60 days of employment.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintains awareness of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Healthy Administration) and/ or MSHA (Mining Safety & Health Administration) regulations.
  • Works as a team member with other employees within the facility to ensure a smooth and safe operation.
  • May be required to ensure that the crusher is fed consistently while maintaining all safety regulations (at quarry locations).
  • Operates Haul Truck, Loader, Skid Steer, and other necessary pieces of equipment within the confines of the facility.
  • Performs a pre-trip inspection of vehicle condition daily and informs foreperson of any problems prior to beginning work.
  • Assist with plant equipment maintenance and clean up as needed.
  • Performs any other miscellaneous duties as requested by the Plant Manager/ Superintendent/ Foreperson.

Other Requirements

  • Employee must join Local 18 IUOE within 60 days of employment.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Manual of Safety Practices and Procedures.
  • Strict adherence to Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the Company Book of Policies.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Timely and regular attendance is an expectation of performance for all Shelly Company employees. Employees will be held accountable for adhering to their workplace schedule.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to do routine paperwork.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet, humid condition airborne particles, and extreme heat or cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud and may require protective equipment .
