Job description

Quantum Networking Metrology Support Architect/Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified engineer to lead quantum metrology research, development, and deployment of quantum networking technologies. The candidate will design, implement, and test cutting‑edge quantum systems and work closely with research labs, partners, and industry providers.

Qualifications
  • PhD in Quantum Physics or related field
  • Eight (8) years of experience conducting quantum experiments
  • Eight (8) years of independent design, implementation, and testing of complete quantum systems
  • Five (5) years working with quantum apparatus for phase control and stabilization
  • Five (5) years developing quantum hardware for experimental use
Core Technical Objectives
  1. Develop a Quantum Engineering Laboratory for Metrology Experiments
    • Plan research initiatives and recommend necessary instruments and devices
    • Set up instrumentation and quantum devices
    • Conduct experiments connected to existing testbeds such as PQNI and DC‑QNet
    • Train junior staff on quantum networking concepts through weekly classes on “information in photon”
  2. Develop and Perform Entanglement Swapping Experiments
    • Develop indistinguishable entangled photon sources by optimizing pulse width and spectral performance
    • Perform two‑photon interference between independent sources, assessing visibility for high indistinguishability
    • Test commercial polarization entangled sources to evaluate suitability for scalable quantum networks
  3. Enable Phase Sensitive Communication Protocols
    • Develop miniature, ultra‑stable lasers operating at 1550nm stabilized with NIST‑designed rugged cavities
    • Evaluate critical laser parameters such as phase noise, spectral width, and coherence length to meet performance standards
    • Enhance performance by locking lasers to external optical cavities
  4. Coherent Faint Light Communication
    • Assess and enable coherent faint light communication over a local area quantum network, evaluating technique progress and network compatibility
