Job summary

The Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) seeks a Research Associate with a strong background in quantum materials and ARPES experience. This is a joint appointment with SIMES and offers opportunities to participate in frontier ARPES research and publish lead-author manuscripts.

You will support user experiments and develop advanced ARPES capabilities. Note: The position is a fixed-term staff role for two years with possible extension, contingent on project needs and funding.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in physics, materials sciences, applied physics, or related field.
  • Research experience in materials physics, preferably quantum materials.
  • Strong background and experience with ARPES or related techniques.
  • Competence operating and maintaining complex experimental systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

  • Design ARPES experiments for studying quantum materials.
  • Upgrade and maintain existing ARPES endstations.
  • Work with external user groups to support their experiments.
  • Develop new experimental capabilities.
  • Participate in frontier research and publish lead-author manuscripts.
