Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks an Associate Staff Scientist to advance operando electron microscopy and time-resolved materials studies in electrochemical scale-up and ultrafast quantum research. The role spans SCCALE and collaboration with the Stanford PULSE Institute, with emphasis on linking microscopy to X-ray and ultrafast methods.

You will work with multidisciplinary teams across SLAC, Stanford, and external partners to reveal structure–performance relationships under operating

Qualifications

PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
Demonstrated expertise in advanced electron microscopy and related methods.
Experience studying functional materials and energy-relevant systems using microscopy/spectroscopy.
Strong publication record in materials and quantum science or related fields.

Responsibilities

Develop and apply advanced TEM/in situ/operando microscopy techniques for functional materials.
Investigate catalysts, interfaces, and degradation pathways related to electrochemical systems.
Develop correlative workflows connecting electron microscopy with X-ray methods and ultrafast science.
Collaborate with PULSE researchers to build time-resolved microscopy and quantum science activities.
Identify future opportunities for operando-compatible sample platforms with MeV-UED teams.
Contribute to publications, proposals, reports, and user support; support facility operations.
