Job summary

Monarch Quantum in San Diego, CA seeks a Laboratory Operations Lead and Laser Safety Officer to build lab operations and safety foundations for cutting-edge quantum hardware. This hands-on, startup-minded role interfaces with engineering leadership and supports a growing production of laser light engines for quantum computers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on cleanroom and lab safety operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in related technical field.
• Minimum: formal LSO training through a recognized provider.
• 5+ years in commercial optics, photonics, or quantum computing environment preferred.
• Active CLSO credential preferred.
• Know ISO 14644, ANSI Z136.1 safety standards.
• Familiar with FDA/CDRH 21 CFR Part 1040 and IEC 60825-1.
• Hazardous waste management and Cal/OSHA compliance experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanroom consumables and safety inventories.
• Enforce cleanroom protocols and contamination control standards.
• Log airborne particle measurements and environmental monitoring.
• Schedule and manage cleaning services with external vendors.
• Manage chemical handling, SDS records, and hazardous waste disposal.
• Interface with engineering to adapt lab layouts for new work scopes.
• Serve as Monarch Quantum’s Laser Safety Officer (LSO).
• Specify, install, and audit optical safety infrastructure and signage.
• Deliver laser safety and hazardous materials training for staff and contractors.
• Drive OEM laser regulatory compliance (FDA/CDRH and IEC 60825-1).
