Job summary

IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York, is seeking a Quantum Hardware EDA & Circuit Design Intern for 2027. You will contribute to design, simulation, and optimization of circuits and workflows supporting scalable quantum computing, collaborating with researchers to advance qubit control, readout, and packaging.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree with preference for a Master’s, and experience in EDA, RF/microwave topics, and Python programming.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an academic graduate program related to electrical engineering, microwave/RF engineering, electronic design automation, computer engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
  • Coursework or projects in microwave/RF circuits, electromagnetics, IC design/simulation, EDA, or AI for EDA.
  • Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys Custom Compiler, and/or EDA design environments. Familiarity with AI-assisted design or optimization methods is a plus.
  • Programming in Python or similar language for analysis, simulation, automation, or EDA tool development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical work clearly in a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and optimize circuits and design workflows for scalable quantum computing systems.
  • Collaborate with circuit designers, EDA developers, and researchers to develop practical tools for qubit control, readout, and packaging.
  • Explore microwave and RF circuit design, electromagnetic simulation, and AI-enabled design methods.
