Job description

Apple is seeking a Quantitative User Researcher to join our team supporting the design and execution of user studies that validate the performance of Apple products. In this role, you will partner closely with engineering, design, research operations, and study facilitator teams to design and implement research studies that directly inform product decisions. Your work will directly shape products used by hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Description

This role operates at the intersection of various disciplines, necessitating collaboration with highly technical partners, rapid adaptation to new domains, and simultaneous management of multiple projects. It demands both scientific expertise and the ability to translate intricate technical requirements into well-designed human subjects research. Success in this role entails translating a deep understanding of how users, use cases, and user behaviors influence product performance into actionable data that informs product decisions.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement user studies to quantitatively validate product performance across a broad range of technical domains
  • Develop research roadmaps, study protocols, measurement frameworks, and analysis plans grounded in sound experimental design principles
  • Ensure studies are designed and executed with strong methodological rigor, applying core principles of study validity, including internal, external, construct, criterion, and statistical conclusion validity to produce trustworthy, generalizable results
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align on research priorities, scope studies, and ensure findings translate into product decisions
  • Analyze and interpret quantitative study data, delivering clear, actionable findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Identify gaps and opportunities in current research methodologies and proactively propose improvements
  • Champion a culture of research rigor and continuous improvement across partner teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (M.S.) in Biomedical Engineering, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, HCI, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years industry experience, with demonstrated history of designing and executing controlled human subjects studies
  • Strong proficiency in statistical analysis (e.g., regression, ANOVA)
  • Proficiency with data processing and statistical tools such as R or Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings to diverse audiences
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (PhD.) in Biomedical Engineering, Human Factors, Experimental Psychology, HCI, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years industry experience, with demonstrated history of designing and executing controlled human subjects studies
  • Background in biometric measurement, wearables studies, or product performance benchmarking
  • Ability to craft compelling, audience-tailored presentations that distill complex data into clear narratives
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to accelerate study design, analysis, and insights synthesis
  • Experience working in cross-functional product development environments alongside engineering and design teams
