Job summary

Xcel Energy Inc. is seeking a Trading Analyst to design and perform quantitative analysis for pricing wholesale energy transactions and hedging risk. The role focuses on optimizing schedules and portfolio positions across power systems and markets.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field and at least four years of modeling and analytics experience, with preferred familiarity in Plexos, Aurora, Prosym, Promod, or Gentrader.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, applied sciences, or related fields.
  • Minimum 4 years experience in operating mathematical models, data mining, and analytics.
  • Prefer work in electricity industry and generation cost modeling software.
  • Experience with generation cost modeling tools (Plexos, Aurora, Prosym, Promod, or Gentrader).

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform quantitative studies of prices, loads, and fuel costs.
  • Model opportunities and determine costs/savings for operations.
  • Create analytical studies to optimize unit commitment and purchases/sales.
  • Perform post-analysis of system operation to improve dispatch efficiency.
