Job summary

AIS, Inc. is seeking a Quantitative Analyst to support NOAA Fisheries, Northwest Fisheries Science Center, Fish Ecology Division.

The role focuses on developing and advancing the Comprehensive Passage (COMPASS) model to evaluate stressors and management actions across fish life cycles in river systems. You will apply statistical modeling, computer modeling, and quantitative ecological analysis to produce management-ready products, collaborate with regional researchers, and document reproducible

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, mathematics, fisheries, ecology, or related natural sciences.
  • 3+ years of experience in statistics, modeling, and data analysis.
  • Strong report writing and peer-reviewed publication experience.
  • Extensive experience in statistical analysis and modeling in R.
  • Familiarity with C/C++ in a scientific modeling context.
  • Proficient with Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to manage workload and work independently or in teams.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background check.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and advance the COMPASS model for river systems.
  • Evaluate survival and migration through the hydropower system.
  • Collaborate with managers and researchers to organize data.
  • Document reproducible workflows and share via open-science platforms.
  • Write reports and contribute to peer‑reviewed articles.
  • Ensure analyses use QA/QC and integrate components into models.
  • Prepare status reports and ad hoc communications.
  • Assist with field data collection in West Coast environments.
