Job description

Position Summary

Quality & Training Technician plays a critical dual role at DreamBuild. First, this position performs the required quality inspections throughout the modular manufacturing and site‑installation process, ensuring all work meets DreamBuild’s procedures, construction manuals, and state requirements. Second, the role helps develop, improve, and deliver technician training, supporting both new‑hire onboarding and upskilling of existing team members.

This is a hands‑on role that works directly on the shop floor (“the farm”) and collaborates closely with production, safety, and scheduling teams. The technician will complete designated quality checkpoints, sign off required documents, identify gaps in execution, and support root‑cause analysis. This position will also participate in curriculum development and assist in training technicians in DreamBuild’s standardized methods.

Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Inspections & Documentation
  • Perform all assigned quality inspections according to DreamBuild’s procedures, hold‑points, and construction inspection manuals.
  • Complete and sign off on designated quality checkpoints for each module (box) and final home assembly.
  • Verify compliance with structural, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and finish requirements specific to modular construction.
  • Document findings accurately and promptly using DreamBuild’s approved forms, checklists, or ERP tools.
  • Identify, document, and track defects.
2. Root Cause Identification & Quality Improvement
  • Identify quality gaps, recurring issues, or deviations from standardized work.
  • Support root‑cause problem‑solving with production teams using simple CI tools (e.g., 5 Whys, checklists, defect logs).
  • Provide real‑time feedback to Production Leaders to prevent rework and improve first‑pass yield.
  • Assist in updating quality procedures, checklists, and training materials when standards evolve.
3. Technician Training & Development
  • Support the development of DreamBuild’s technician training program, including onboarding, skills modules, and hands‑on demonstrations.
  • Train new technicians in safety, workflows, basic trade skills, and DreamBuild’s standardized building methods.
  • Reinforce 5S, safety behaviors, and quality expectations during training.
  • Track completion of required modules and provide feedback to the Project Manager and Production Leaders.
4. Collaboration & Communication
  • Work directly with Production Leaders, the Scheduling team, the Stock Room, and the Site team to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Communicate quality findings clearly and respectfully to technicians and leads.
  • Participate in weekly production and quality meetings, providing insight on trends or hotspots.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager on updates to the training plan and quality systems.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date records of inspection results and quality issues, ensuring traceability and transparency.
Qualifications
Required
  • Experience in construction, modular manufacturing, production work, or similar technical environments.
  • Working knowledge skills in framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, finishes, or related trades.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship.Ability to read construction drawings, follow procedures, and understand inspection criteria.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to provide constructive, respectful feedback.
  • Organized, reliable, and able to maintain accurate records.
Preferred (Not Required)
  • Experience performing quality inspections or similar verification tasks.
  • Previous involvement in training, mentoring, or coaching others.
  • Knowledge of lean practices (5S, standardized work, one‑piece flow).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  • Comfort with tablets, ERP systems, checklists, or digital inspections.
Key Attributes for Success
  • Consistency: Applies standards the same way every time.
  • Objectivity: Maintains fairness and follows procedures, not preferences.
  • Professionalism: Communicates clearly and respectfully with technicians and leaders.
  • Curiosity: Looks for causes of issues, not just symptoms.
  • Teacher’s mindset: Able to explain, demonstrate, and encourage best practices.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to inspect work in various stages of construction, requiring bending, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Work occurs both indoors and outdoors under canopies.
Why This Role Matters
  1. Quality: Ensuring every home meets our standards before moving downstream.
  2. People Development: Building a highly skilled, consistent, and reliable technician workforce.

The role helps ensure DreamBuild delivers safe, high‑quality homes while building the long‑term capability of our team.
