Socket.dev is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Inspector to perform mechanical and dimensional inspections of injection molded parts in a manufacturing environment.

You will analyze drawings, use CMMs and precision tools, and communicate results to the Quality Manager and engineers. This role involves start-ups, in-process inspections, and contributing to PFMEA/PPAP processes.

Qualifications

Job description

Job Summary:

Perform mechanical/dimensional inspections of injection molded parts. Performing Inspections for visual molding defects, and dimensional features while following customer supplied and industry quality specifications. Responsible for part inspections on both start-ups, in-process, visual inspections, and First Articles using various types of measuring equipment, surface plate, hand tools and software. Oversee and inspect parts during machining, molding, trimming operations etc. Interface with production workers, and maintain communication with Quality Manager, Project Engineers, Molders, and lead operators etc. Responsible for creating nonconforming reports, MRB actions, CMM operations as well as being proficient and experienced using CMMs, Comparators, surface plate, and hand tools.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Discard or reject products, materials, and equipment not meeting specifications.
  • Analyze and interpret drawings, data, JDPs, and other materials to determine conformance to customer requirements using inspection and testing procedures.
  • Notify supervisors and other personnel of production problems and assist in identifying and correcting these problems.
  • Provides dimensional reporting interpretation and feedback to CNC technicians for both start-up and in-process offset adjust.
  • Operates the CMM’s and other inspection equipment during production, start-up, and general inspections
  • Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products
  • Mark items with details such as grade and acceptance or rejection status.
  • Observe and monitor production operations and equipment to ensure conformance to specifications and make or order necessary process or assembly adjustments.
  • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using Zeiss CMMS, Comparators, and various measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and Micro-hite surface plate measurements.
  • Perform duties with little or no supervision.
  • Create and review SOP’s, Job Data Packets, and other QMS documentation.
  • Perform internal audits when requested.
  • Develops inspection plans.
  • Identifies nonconformances and also scrap reduction opportunities
  • Interacts with company ERP when needed.
  • Reviews production processes for compliance to internal requirements.
  • Ensures nonconforming materials process is followed.
  • Asist Quality Manager, Engineers and Sr. Techs with customer PPAPs, FMEAs, and FA inspections when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by Quality Manager.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • The ability to read blueprints, sketches, specifications and technical materials.
  • Ability to operate CMM’s (calypso) and other precision inspection equipment supporting production and start-up
  • The ability to work with coworkers in a team environment.
  • Ability to use handheld measuring devices.
  • Ability to train Quality Technicians I & II without assistance
  • Demonstrates ability to interpret GD&T print tolerancing
  • Critical Thinking; Complex Problem Solving; and, Verbal and Written Communication.
  • Completion of internal quality technician courses for Technician level III
  • Intermediate experience with both Zeiss calypso CMM software/operation as well as optical comparator operations.
  • Background ISO9001 environment preferred. Similar quality system experience such as AS9100, ISO13485 or IATF16949 welcome.
  • Computer experience with Windows environment and MS Office Suite.
  • English language proficiency, to include verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to pass all pre-employment screenings.

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.)
  • Minimum of 4 years Production knowledge in Manufacturing in a quality inspection position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time during 8-12 hour shifts.
  • Lifting up to 50lbs.
