Job summary

Zoetis in Lincoln, NE, is seeking a Laboratory Technician to perform routine microbiological testing in the Microbiology Control Laboratory. Responsibilities include sterility, osmolality, moisture testing, growth promotion, and biological indicator testing, with potential for additional assays.

Shift is 1st, with overtime and weekend requirements. Required are an associate degree in science and 1–2 years of relevant experience; a bachelor’s in biological sciences is preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years associate degree in science or equivalent coursework plus 1–2 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences preferred.
• Experience with aseptic manufacturing environments is a plus.
• Competent with Windows-based applications including MODA, SAP, LIMS, Process Runner, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory procedures using aseptic technique and SOPs to support testing and release of product.
• Execute bacterial-based assays including sterility, osmolality, moisture, growth promotion, and biological indicator testing; assist with related tests as needed.
• Maintain critical reagent inventory and preparation.
• Conduct laboratory investigations and determine CAPA.
• Monitor processes and alert supervisors to quality issues.
• Apply GLP and GMP principles and comply with regulatory requirements (USDA, FDA, EU).

Position Summary

Perform routine microbiological testing within the Microbiology Control Laboratory according to GLP, regulatory and standard operating procedures. Primary testing includes but not limited to sterility, osmolality, moisture testing, growth promotion, and biological indicator testing. Additional Testing may include bacterial inactivation, absence of Mycoplasma, bioburden, bacterial potency, and microbial limits testing. Hours: 1st Shift. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.

Position Responsibilities

• Under close supervision, the Laboratory Technician will perform routine laboratory procedures using aseptic technique, in compliance with specifications in all Standard Operating Procedures and Standard Test Procedures used to support testing and release of product.
• Perform a variety of bacterial based assays primarily including sterility, moisture analysis, growth promotion, osmolality, and biological indicator testing. Additional testing may include inactivation, absence of mycoplasma, bioburden, bacterial potency, microbial limits, and other various biological tests as needed.
• Maintain critical reagent inventory including preparation and inventory management.
• Conduct laboratory investigation and determine appropriate CAPA.
• Monitor processes and alert supervisory personnel of known or suspected quality problems.
• Practice basic aseptic laboratory procedures as per training and SOPs.
• Apply Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to assigned work.
• Learn and demonstrate understanding of basic sterilization principles.
• Learn and comply with regulatory requirements such as USDA, FDA, EU
• Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies.

Education and Experience

Required:

• Two years associate degree in science or
• One to two years of relevant experience with relevant science-based college courses.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences
• Experience with aseptic manufacturing environments
• Competent use of Window-based applications, specifically MODA, SAP, LIMS, Process Runner, and Excel

Technical Skills and Competencies Required

Required:

• Basic Aseptic technique, Excellent Organization, Verbal, and Written Communication skills.
• Basic understanding of aseptic operation and microbiology.

Preferred:

• Experience with aseptic practices and aseptic manufacturing areas, Knowledge of MODA SAP, LIMS, Process Runner, and Microsoft Excel.

Physical Position Requirements

• Ability to lift 20-50 pounds routinely.
• Withstand long periods of standing.
• Exposure to high temperatures (autoclaves).
• Manual dexterity using hands and fingers.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision work.
• Occasional need to sit, reach with hands and arms.
• Ability to work flexible hours, work weekend and overtime.
