Job summary

PPG Industries, Inc. is seeking a Quality Technician (2nd Shift) at the Oak Creek, WI plant to perform laboratory tests and verify product quality during production. You will operate a range of lab instruments, record results, and help ensure compliance with quality policies.

The role requires a high school diploma; a technical degree and Lean/Six Sigma knowledge are preferred. Onsite position with regular 2nd shift hours.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical/engineering bachelor's preferred.
• Inspection, test, and product evaluation experience.
• Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify formula and component specifications on batch tickets.
• Set up, adjust, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
• Record test results on batch tickets and in the company’s computer system.
• Organize and maintain quality records and retain production batches.
• Evaluate production batch records in response to quality complaints.
• Conduct incoming raw materials testing to ensure conformance to required specifications.
• Perform routine production quality checks to ensure finished products are filled and packaged according to specifications.
• Occasional quality audits of laboratory and production work instructions to ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Policy.

Job description

Quality Technician (2nd Shift)

As a Quality Technician (2nd Shift), you will perform laboratory tests to determine the chemical and physical characteristics or composition of in-process batches, raw materials, and finished products for quality control, process control, or product development. You will report to the Quality Supervisor III and will be onsite at the Oak Creek, WI plant.

Working Hours

Second shift: Monday‑Friday, start time between 2 PM–4 PM, working an 8.5‑hour shift.

Responsibilities

• Verify formula and component specifications on batch tickets.
• Set up, adjust, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as paint guns, mixers, viscometers, chemical balances, pH meters, gloss meters, solids analyzer, spectrophotometer, and other equipment.
• Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
• Record test results on batch tickets and in the company’s computer operating system.
• Organize and maintain quality records and retain production batches.
• Evaluate production batch records in response to quality complaints.
• Conduct incoming raw materials testing, ensuring conformance to required specifications.
• Perform routine production quality checks to ensure finished products are filled and packaged according to specifications.
• Perform occasional quality audits of laboratory and production work instructions to ensure compliance with the company’s Quality Policy.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field preferred.
• Inspection, test, and product evaluation experience.
• General knowledge of Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma methodologies preferred.
• Ability to clearly identify and communicate issues that need to be addressed and take the necessary steps to avoid future errors.
