Job summary

Mayville Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking an Inspector to ensure product conformance across manufacturing processes. You will interpret drawings, record test data, and document deviations while supporting calibration and MRB activities.

This role requires basic math, blueprint literacy, and strong reporting skills to maintain quality standards. Candidates should have a high school diploma and at least one year of manufacturing or engineering experience, with proficiency in inspection tools

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in manufacturing or engineering.
  • Proficiency with quality inspection tools and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to write reports and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret drawings, schematics, or standards to inspect or test product for conformance.
  • Record test data and apply statistical process control where applicable.
  • Document reports to validate deviations from standards.
  • Support calibration of tools and gauges as required.
  • Operate measurement equipment (CMM, profilometer, hardness tester, optical comparators, calipers, micrometers, protractors).
  • Coordinate MRB activities and support containment or sorting as directed by quality leadership.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Job Responsibilities

1. Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or standards to inspect or test product throughout the manufacturing processes to determine if it is fit for conformance or customer requirements. This can include dimensional, attribute, performance, mechanical or chemical characteristics.

2. Records test data, applying statistical process control procedures where applicable.

3. Documents reports to validate or identify details for deviations from existing standards, where and when required.

4. Supports calibration of tools and gauges as required.

5. Operates various types of measurement equipment required to evaluate product conformance (i.e. various coordinate measuring machines, profilometer, hardness tester, optical comparators, various gages (calipers, micrometers, protractors, etc.)

6. Coordinates activities related to Material Review Board (MRB) or supports as directed. Supports containment and/or sorting activities as requested for external or internal sorts as directed by the quality department leadership.

7. Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills Requirements
  • Proficiency with quality inspection tools and equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to the degree necessary.
  • Ability to determine product status based on test and inspection results.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints as applicable to the manufacturing of metals.
Educational Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Experience Requirements
  • One year of experience in manufacturing or engineering.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Some physical demand; occasionally lifts light to medium-weight material. Frequent lifting/moving average weight (up to 25 lbs/1-11 kgs) material.
  • Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
  • Ability to stand and / or walk constantly over a full work shift on concrete (8-12 hours).
  • May be exposed to noise levels for which hearing protection must be worn over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
