Job summary

Leer Inc. is seeking a Quality Technician to monitor and improve quality across ice merchandisers and walk-in coolers.

The role acts as the main quality contact for daily issues on the production floor and participates in decisions on product and component acceptability. The position involves creating procedures and checklists to verify specifications, coordinating with operations, and leading corrective actions for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in quality or related field preferred.
• 4+ years of experience in a quality role preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; advanced Excel preferred; EPICOR experience preferred.

• Perform incoming inspections on components and returns; conduct in-process audits.
• Lead corrective actions and continuous improvement tasks.
• Support inventory control and final inspection; maintain calibration program.
• Assist regulatory compliance activities including audits.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for performance as measured against key safety, quality, and production metrics.
• Main quality contact for daily quality issues identified on production floor. Help make decisions on product and component acceptability.
• Create and maintain procedures, job instructions, and checklists used to verify and document the product is assembled to the defined specifications.
• Works with Operations to help define and implement quality requirements, plans, checklists, and other deliverables.
• Coordinates the collection of quality data. Provide inspection related reports and supporting data as required.
• Manage the nonconforming process including the proper identification, segregation and quick disposition of nonconforming material and product according to the Nonconforming / DMR procedure. This may entail working directly with supplier representatives.
• Coordinate and assist in the sorting of rejected materials and products as needed.
• Perform incoming inspection on purchased and outsourced components, returned goods from customers, and freight damaged units.
• Perform in-process audits and product inspections to verify written procedures and instructions and to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Work on corrective actions to resolve reported quality issues and continuous improvement tasks.
• Support inventory control and final inspection as needed.
• Maintain the equipment calibration and verification program.
• Help with regulatory compliance activities, including maintaining regulatory files and leading audits.

Education and Experience

• Associate degree in quality or related field preferred.
• A minimum of four years of experience in a Quality related role is preferred.
• Experience with Microsoft Office is required, with advanced Excel preferred.
• Experience with EPICOR is preferred.

Qualifications

• Must understand & be able to follow ALL safe operating procedures & requirements.
• Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication, painting application equipment and process, refrigeration and electrical systems are helpful.
• Ability to work with basic measuring tools (i.e. tape measure, calipers, micrometer, electronic multi-meter, etc.).
• Ability to effectively communicate and interact with fellow employees.
• Ability to make responsible and sensible decisions.
• Must be dependable, cooperative, self-motivated, and self-disciplined.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. on occasion.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move physical products, reports, files, etc.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Under the direction of the Quality Manager, the Quality Technician monitors and evaluates all materials and processes involved with the manufacture of ice merchandisers and walk-in coolers.
