Job summary

Atkore in Hobart, IN is seeking a Quality Technician to join the night shift (6pm–6am) with rotating weekends. You will inspect manufactured parts using calipers, micrometers, and gauges, document findings, and support the quality system.

You'll read blueprints, perform SPC monitoring, and help drive corrective actions while preparing quality records and calibration documentation for production teams.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Applied Science preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing a plus.
  • Proficient with precision measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, comparators, height gauges, and custom fixtures.
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control and how to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret manufacturing drawings and specifications and apply procedures, specifications, and standards to ensure product compliance.
  • Prepare job information including documents, gauges, quality history, etc. for production teams prior to the start of job setups.
  • Monitor Statistical Process Controls on key characteristics as defined.
  • Perform inspection of manufactured parts, tooling, and fixtures to ensure final product conformance to customer specifications.
  • Initiate non-conformance reports and corrective actions.
  • Complete, inspect and distribute all quality records and documents.
  • Calibrate gauging and maintain calibration records for gauges and other equipment.
  • Assist in the training of new production personnel in gauges, gauing techniques, equipment, Statistical Process Control, data collection, and quality policies and procedures.

Who we are looking for:

We are currently searching for a Quality Technician to be based out of Hobart, IN. Reporting to the Quality Manager, this person will be responsible for performing product inspections using various types of measurement equipment, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges. This person will be responsible for preparing reports to document their findings. This position is for an off shift that will work 6pm - 6am and rotating weekends.

The ideal candidate will have a minimumof an associate degree in Applied Science with3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.

What you’ll do:

What you’ll bring:
  • Associates degree in Applied Science preferred
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with a variety of precision measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, comparators, height gauges, and custom fixtures.
  • Ability to read/interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning &Tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of key elements of Statistical Process Control and how to apply.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, and Power point).

Within 6 months, you’ll:
  • Gain an understanding of the current procedures your team owns.
  • Partner with Quality Manager to identify short- and long-term process improvement ideas.

Within 12 months, you’ll:
  • Create, update, and share inspection documentation.
  • Have meaningful conversations with Operations team concerning quality issues in real time.
  • Lead Lean initiatives to drive process improvements.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $ 49,200 - $67,650 . Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
