Job summary

Total Plastic Solutions in Lynchburg, VA seeks a Quality Technician to perform start-up, in-process, and final inspections, manage QA documentation, and support ongoing quality initiatives.

The role collaborates with the Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, Production Managers and Supervisors to monitor scrap, verify labels, collect samples, and participate in corrective actions, new product development meetings, and customer conferences. Occasional floor work on QA tasks is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Intermediate mathematics, reading and writing skills.
  • Organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks and work as a team.
  • Basic computer skills including Outlook, Office and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform start up, in process, and final inspection measurements per instructions.
  • Collect samples from production floor to be measured.
  • Monitor scrap with team to minimize waste.
  • Complete use of scales, gauging, inspection and label equipment.
  • Verify label information to ensure correct material and parts.
  • Investigate customer complaints, returns or internal part failures.
  • Communicate quality issues to management and supervisors.
  • Perform rework duties as needed.
  • Perform QL duties on the production floor or in the medical department as needed.
  • Collect samples representing typical non-conformities for MRB placement.
  • Create MRBs for non-conforming parts requiring extra work or inspection.
  • Perform tasks assigned by Quality Manager.
  • Demonstrate competency of ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001.

Job description

The Quality Technician works collaboratively with the Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, Production Managers, Process Engineers, Shift Supervisors and members of the Leadership team to perform inspections of all parts and trials. The Quality Technician is the recognized expert on all aesthetics and measurement requirements for inspections. The Quality Technician is responsible for all quality documentation in IQMS as well as any physical paperwork. Additionally, the Quality Technician will assess trials, participate in corrective action meetings, attend meetings on new product development, participate in customer conferences, initiate lot traceability and all other aspects of quality that may be required. The Quality technician will occasionally also work on the production floor to perform QL duties. The Quality Technician will also work in the rework area, if needed.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  1. Perform start up, In process, and Final inspection measurements per TPL-201 instructions.
  2. Collect samples from production floor to be measured.
  3. Work with Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, production managers, and Shift Supervisors to monitor scrap to minimize production waste.
  4. Complete use of scales, gauging, inspection and label equipment.
  5. Verify label information (material and box labels) to ensure correct material used and correct parts are being produced.
  6. Participate in investigating customer complaints, returns or internal part failures.
  7. Communicate all quality issues to Quality Manager, Quality Engineers, and Shift Supervisors.
  8. Perform rework duties as needed.
  9. Perform QL duties on the production floor or the medical department as needed.
  10. Collect a sample or samples representing the typical non-conformity of production that is being placed on MRB and place in bin for the Quality Manager and Quality Engineer, during times when filling in on the production floor.
  11. Create MRB’s for any non-conforming parts created on the production floor which require additional work or inspection, during times when filling in on the production floor.
  12. Perform necessary tasks assigned by Quality Manager.
  13. Demonstrate competency of applicable requirements from applicable ISO standards (ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485 and ISO 14001).
Requirements and Qualifications:

Education... High School Diploma or GED

Essential Knowledge… Intermediate mathematics, reading and writing skills. Organizational skills, ability to prioritize daily tasks and work as a team member. Have basic computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Office and Excel.

Work Experience… a minimum of two years supervisory/management experience, a basic knowledge of quality principals, an understanding of measuring equipment, a good attitude, a desire to succeed and is not intimidated by confrontation. This person must conduct themselves with professionalism when discussing quality issues whether it be to an operator, supervisor, manager or owner.
