Job summary

Crane Company is seeking a Quality Engineer to develop and implement quality programs, manage RMAs, and lead hands-on product evaluations for customer returns. You will perform root-cause analysis, apply Six Sigma and other tools, and ensure data integrity across measurement systems.

The role requires a strong foundation in GD&T, statistics, and cross-functional collaboration. The position emphasizes containment, calibration scheduling, and collaboration with Quality, Production, Engineering,

Qualifications

  • AS degree in Technical discipline (or equivalent education) or a minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality.
  • Some formal Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Must have experience with electronics.
  • Must understand and apply basic inspection and testing techniques.
  • Must possess basic understanding of quality philosophies, systems, standards, and ethics.
  • Must have basic knowledge of quality management systems and its development, documentation, and implementation with respect to domestic and international regulatory standards or requirements.
  • Must have basic knowledge of quality concepts and methods such as FMEA, SPC, MSA, Lean Manufacturing, CAPA, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.
  • Must interpret engineering drawings, test procedures, work orders, BOMs, written procedures, and international standards.
  • Must have strong GD&T knowledge.
  • Must be able to analyze and report data in Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement quality programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting, and problem solving.
  • Manage all aspects of the RMA process, including issuance, receipt, evaluation, reports, disposition communication, and closure.
  • Conduct hands-on product evaluations, root cause analysis, repair, and functional testing for customer returns/complaints.
  • Apply problem solving tools (5-Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC) for root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Containment activities as part of the 8D process.
  • Acquire, analyze, and present data to facilitate process analysis and improvements.
  • Plan, control, and assure product and process quality according to standards including sampling and measurement systems.
  • Provide technical support to Quality, Production, Engineering, and Sales.
  • Perform measurements using appropriate methods and tools.
  • Ensure data integrity on gage management system (xTrak) and proper calibration scheduling.
  • Calibrate gages (in-house or 3rd party) and coordinate timing to minimize production impact.
  • Perform quality reviews in the production cell and generate Certificates of Compliance.
  • Support suppliers, production, and customers on quality-related activities.
  • Participate in quality reviews and audits as required.
  • Assist with PM/PPAP reviews and PPAP submissions.

Job description

Primary
  • Develop and implement quality programs, including tracking, analyzing, reporting, and problem solving.
  • Manage all aspects of the RMA process, including RMA issuance, RMA receipt, evaluation of the parts, written Evaluation Reports or Corrective Action Reports (8D), disposition communication with the customer, and closure of the RMA (debit, replacement, repair, return as-is, etc.).
  • Conduct hands‑on product evaluations, root cause analysis, repair, and functional testing for any type of customer return/complaint.
  • Apply problem solving tools (i.e. 5-Whys, Fishbone, DMAIC, etc.) as part of root cause analysis and identify corrective actions with multidisciplinary team.
  • Responsible for containment activities as part of the Corrective Action Report (8D).
  • Acquire, analyze, and present data using appropriate standard quantitative methods across a spectrum of business environments to facilitate process analysis and improvements.
  • Plan, control, and assure product and process quality in accordance with quality principles and applicable standards, which includes planning processes, material control, acceptance sampling, and measurement systems.
  • Provide technical support to the Quality, Production, Engineering, and Sales departments.
  • Perform measurements as requested using appropriate methods and measuring tools/equipment.
  • Responsible for ensuring data integrity on Barksdale’s gage management system (xTrak) and proper work allocation for the calibration of gages.
  • Complete calibration of gages in a timely manner, either internally (in-house calibration by technician) or externally (3rd party lab). Including, sourcing, planning, scheduling, and execution of calibrations while minimizing production impact.
  • Perform quality reviews (i.e. process/product/paperwork review, witness functional test, etc.) in the production cell.
  • Generate Certificates of Compliance as required by the sales order.
  • Support suppliers, Production, and customers on any quality related activity.
Secondary
  • Participate in New Product Development (APQP) projects. Production introduction shall be accompanied by Quality validation using DVP&R and advanced statistical methods (i.e. Gage R&R, Capability Studies, etc.).
  • Participate in various Kaizen events and projects in order to drive continuous improvement.
  • Assist with the execution of Core Tools (DFMEA, PFMEA, MSA, SPC, and PPAP)
  • Assist with the review of PCRs/PCOs (ECRs/ECOs).
  • Assist with the review of PPAP submissions (for both suppliers and customers), including the review and final approval of the Part Submission Warranty (PSW).
  • Assist with the creation of Quality procedures, forms, reports, etc.
  • Assist with the evaluation of prototype products prior to production runs and perform qualification tests and prepare reports prior to release of new products.
  • Assist with other administrative activities, such as issuance of Corrective Action Reports (CARs), Supplier Corrective Action Reports (SCARs), Material Rejection Reports (MRRs), etc.
  • Perform Process and Product Audits in the various Production cells.
  • Provide general assistance on any quality related activity.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS
  • AS degree in Technical displine (or equivalent education) or a minimum of 3 years of experience in Quality.
  • Some formal Six Sigma training preferred.
  • Must have experience with electronics.
  • Must understand and be able to apply basic inspection and testing techniques.
  • Must posses basic level of understanding in quality philosophies, principles, systems, tools, standards, organizational and team dynamics, customer expectations and satisfaction, supplier relations and performance, leadership, training, interpersonal relationships, improvement systems, and professional ethics.
  • Must have basic understanding of quality management systems and its development, documentation, and implementation with respect to domestic and international regulatory standards or requirements.
  • Must have basic knowledge of quality concepts and methods such as FMEA, SPC, MSA, Lean Manufacturing, CAPA, Six Sigma, 5S, etc.
  • Must have basic knowledge of basic statistical concepts (FPY, rate, %, average, std deviation, etc.).
  • Must be able to make decisions using risk-based thinking and data driven analytical thinking.
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings, test procedures, work orders, BOMs, written procedures, international standards, etc.
  • Must have strong knowledge of GD&T.
  • Strong teamwork with outward attitude of support towards members of the department and the company.
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Strong ability to organize team with ability to assemble, coordinate, schedule, and execute interdepartmental activities.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to prioritize effectively based on business needs.
  • Must be able to analyze, interpret, and report on data in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be comfortable with hands‑on work.
  • Must be able to stand and move parts physically.
  • Must maintain 5S in work areas and follow all safety rules.
  • Must be flexible to travel (both domestically and internationally) and work overtime as required.
