Job summary

Camaco in Lorain, Ohio is seeking a Quality Inspector with supervisory responsibilities to lead a team of inspectors and ensure parts meet all quality standards.

You will apply metrology techniques, perform GD&T checks, and coordinate with the Quality Manager to address issues and drive continuous improvement across production.

Qualifications

  • Two to four years of experience in quality inspection.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures.
  • Knowledge of AIAG/ASQC, ASME quality standards and GD&T.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Supervisory responsibilities leading a group of inspectors.

Job description

Purpose

Responsible for inspecting and monitoring parts to ensure good quality parts are produced. Lead and/or support the area in continuous improvement efforts. Ensure quality products are delivered to customers and address customer concerns and issues. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and check dimensions on parts, using metrology instruments, to ensure parts meet quality standards and that dimensions are accurate.
  • Audit Control Plans and FMEAs.
  • Assist in the development, distribution and implementation of Quality Alerts.
  • Perform acid etch and magnetic particle tests on a prescribed basis.
  • Lead a group of employees, oversee work activities and engage in various forms of communication and judgment.
  • Train employees in proper procedures and job skills.
  • Enter data into the computer from paper documents for record‑keeping purposes.
  • Check, sort, and file paperwork.
  • Red‑tag and create repair orders for non‑conforming parts.
  • Interface with the Quality Manager to address quality issues.
  • Resolve customer issues at the customer level.
  • Act as liaison between the company and the customer.
  • Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEAs and 8Ds.
  • Monitor first & last piece approvals for conformance.
  • Perform gage studies and capability studies.
  • Conduct problem‑solving activities.
  • Support continuous‑improvement activities such as Red X / DOE.
  • Carry out various other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required Education & Experience: High School diploma or equivalent with completion of established curriculum and/or demonstrated understanding of skills. Two to four years of experience.
  • Competencies: Ability to follow established procedures; strong attention to detail; knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC), GD&T with application and blueprint reading; ability to operate basic metrology instruments, optical comparator, hardness tester, and Coordinate Measurement Machine; calibration of equipment gages; knowledge of welding specifications; problem‑solving skills; knowledge of product and processes; knowledge of quality standards (AIAG/ASQC, ASME, AITF16949); communication skills to interact with all levels of employees, customers and suppliers; computer skills and math skills sufficient to perform department‑related tasks; ability to work effectively with people.
  • Licensure: Valid driver’s license.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: This position leads a group of quality inspectors and/or rework activities and is responsible for performance management within that group.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a manufacturing environment.
  • Physical Demands: The employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires frequent visual effort and concentration, and the ability to move throughout the plant. The employee must lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The work requires regular standing, walking, bending, lifting and a variety of physical activities. Travel to customer locations as needed.
