Job summary

McCormick & Company, Inc. seeks a full-time Quality Systems Manager IV at the Flavor Manufacturing Center in Hunt Valley, MD. The role leads quality systems, audits, and training across the plant and reports to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Required are a BS in a technical field with SQF and PCQI certifications, plus 4+ years in quality within food manufacturing and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads development, maintenance, and auditing of plant Quality systems and programs.
• Leads internal Food Safety Team and maintains Food Safety program.
• Manages audits (internal, mock, 3rd party, regulatory, and customer) and CAPA.
• Directs annual Quality Program training needs and plant-wide rollout.
• Provides required documentation including monthly/quarterly reports and COAs.
• Primary trainer for GMP, Food Safety, and allergens in the plant.
• Maintains recall program and conducts traceability exercises.
• Ensures GMP compliance via audits, verifications and validations.
• Collaborates with engineering for change management.
• Interacts with corporate and customers to maintain relationships.
• Supports segregation, tagging, sampling, and disposition of non-conforming goods.

Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Systems Manager develops and maintains the Quality Management System for the plant. The QSM maintains and implements all plant level procedures that affects food safety and food quality. The QSM also manages internal, third party, regulatory and customer audits; maintenance and implementation of plant quality systems, policies and procedures; customer complaint investigations and responses; and required Quality related training for all employees in the facility. In addition, the QSM manages a direct report responsible for the execution of Quality Systems tasks within the facility.

Responsibilities

• Leads the development, maintenance, and auditing of the plant Quality systems and specific customer driven programs.
• Leads internal Food Safety Team and maintains all aspects of Food Safety program.
• Revises and distributes procedural changes to the Quality programs.
• Conducts internal and mock audits and facilitates 3rd party, customer, regulatory, and vendor audits; develops and manages root cause and corrective action program for audit findings.
• Leads the plant in determining the annual Quality Program training needs and assists in the scheduling and implementation of these programs plant wide.
• Provides customer required documentation including, but not limited to, monthly / quarterly reports, Certificates of Analysis, and customer complaint/inquiry responses.
• Primary trainer for GMP, Food Safety, and allergens in the plant.
• Maintains and updates plant recall program; schedules and conducts traceability exercises.
• Ensures compliance to all quality systems and GMP’s through system audits verifications and validations.
• Administers foreign material control program.
• Administers allergen control program through program management and training.
• Provides Quality leadership to the facility in the absence of the Quality Manager.
• Collaborates with facility engineering team to ensure that all projects are assessed through the change management process.
• Provides leadership with cause, effect and corrective actions required to resolve deviations from customer standards.
• Interacts with McCormick corporate and customers at any and all levels required, to establish and maintain effective business relationships.
• Assists in managing non-conforming goods through the Quality Notification Process by supporting the segregation, tagging, sampling, disposition, and communication of held raw materials, work in process, and finished goods with Quality and Food Safety concerns.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a relevant technical field
• SQF Practitioner Certification
• PCQI Certification
• Experience leading teams and/or managing direct reports
• Knowledge and experience working with Food Safety Programs and related required documentation
• Experience with GFSI
• Experience reading and interpreting technical documents such as specifications, procedure manuals, and technical data sheets
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact with all levels within the facility and organization as well as with external auditors, suppliers, and customers
• Experience working well with all levels of employees, as well as internal and external customers in both individual and team-based situations
• Minimum 4 years of Quality experience in a food, beverage, flavor, ingredient and/or pet food manufacturing
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with others both verbally and in writing

Base Salary: $80,500 to $137,000

Base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience for this role, and/or internal equity of our current employees as part of any final offer. This position is also eligible to participate in McCormick’s Incentive Bonus (MIB) Plan.
