Summary of duties
QSS shall have a strong knowledge of all inspection procedures and utilization or required measuring devices that correspond to the tasking in which they are assigned. QSS is responsible for ensuring that the quality of the product or services provided to the customer through the performance and documentation of all required inspection in accordance with corresponding NAVSEA Standard Items and company procedures. Documents all required repairs and communicates these issues to production to initiate corrective actions. QSS ensures that all test and inspection documentation is accounted for and thoroughly completed prior to transfer of custody.
Specific duties
- Works directly with QAM, QSS, Task Lead and Project Manager to ensure all inspections requirements are properly identified in the Quality Workbook.
- Works directly with Production personnel to ensure that inspections are scheduled and performed as required.
- Utilizes knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Items, NAVSEA Technical Specification 9090-310, MIL-STDs and MIL-SPECs to objectively review on board installations and associated Objective Quality Evidence.
- Develops Test and Inspection Plans in accordance with Ship Installation Drawings and relevant references to be included in Quality Assurance Workbooks.
- Generates internal Corrective Action Requests.
- Obtains Prism Maritime QCI Certification and trains Quality Control Inspectors (QCI) on proper inspection techniques and utilization of measuring devices.
- Conducts internal audits/surveillance to ensure adherence to company procedures/policy in the areas of quality, safety and training.
- Confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
- Extensive knowledge of NAVSEA Technical Specification 9090-310 (series).
- Conducts routine shipboard site visits for spot checks and in process evaluations of installation tasking being performed documents “as found” shipboard conditions.
- Reviews all data, ensuring that performance and quality of products conform to established company, International (ISO), and governmental regulatory standards and agency guidelines, and to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality standards for processing materials into partially finished or finished material or product.
- Recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
- Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.
- Overtime is routinely required but not guaranteed.
- Personal transportation required for local inspections. Travel outside the local area may be required, national and international.
- Possession of an active State Driver’s License is required.
- Perform any other assignments or tasks as needed or requested by management to assist in accomplishing the organization’s mission, objectives and goals.
QSS III
- Assists in managing company QMS through review and updates of procedures.
- Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Recommends modifications to existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.
Education / Specialized training – QSS II
- High School Diploma or equivalent and including one of the following time related field experience scenario criteria:
- Bachelors’ Degree and 4 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
- Degree should be in Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
- Associates Degree and 6 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
- Degree should be in Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
- 8 years of AIT/related industry experience in QA, installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
Education / Specialized training – QSS III
- High School Diploma or equivalent and including one of the following time related field experience scenario criteria:
- Bachelors’ Degree and 6 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
- Degree should be in Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
- Associates Degree and 8 years technical experience in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
- Degree should be in Engineering, Quality, or a related field.
- 12 years of AIT/related industry experience in QA, in installation, modification, field change, operation, maintenance, inspection, test, troubleshooting and repair of military electrical/electronic Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance systems and equipment.
Security Clearance
- Clearance up to Secret level required.
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Be able to access all US Military facilities, Homeland Security facilities and private shipyards.
Certification / Licenses (as required for the task being performed)
- NAVSEA Basic Paint Inspector
- Passive Countermeasures System (PCMS) Installer/Inspector
- NAVSEA Connector Certification
- NAVSEA Cableway Certification
- NAVSEA Fiber Optic QA/Supervisor Training
- OSHA 7615 Maritime Training 10hr Card
- NDT Level II (Visual Test Inspector)

Physical/Environmental Job Requirements
Must be physically capable to access and transverse all areas of a ship on a daily basis.
- Lifting/moving up to and including 50 pounds
- Routinely climbing several flights of stairs
- Performing tasks in confined spaces
Our work is primarily onboard naval vessels that may include variables of physical activity, i.e. stooping, climbing, walking, etc. In performing these duties, you may be required to work outdoors. You will experience temperature variations, extremely loud noises and other physical hazards.
