Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking a Quality Specialist to support daily quality activities and ensure aerospace-quality requirements are met across materials, processes, and records. You will assist with inspections, documentation, calibration, MRB, ECOs, and quality system upkeep.

You will collaborate with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, and Program Management to ensure proper execution and documentation throughout the manufacturing process.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years in quality, inspection, manufacturing, aerospace, or related field.
  • Experience reading drawings and specifications.
  • Strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience with AS9100 quality systems a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process, receiving, and final inspections as required.
  • Review drawings, specs, PO's, routers, and customer requirements for inspection.
  • Assist with dimensional inspection using standard equipment.
  • Inspect aerospace components (composite, machined, bonded, assembled).
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconformances and issues.
  • Support inspections during production and clear backlogs.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and objective evidence.

Quality Specialist
Position Summary

The Quality Specialist is responsible for supporting daily Quality Department activities to ensure products, processes, documentation, and records meet customer, company, and applicable aerospace quality requirements. This position provides hands‑on support for inspection activities, quality documentation, calibration, nonconforming material, ECO implementation, work order review, and general quality system upkeep.

The Quality Specialist works closely with Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, and Program Management to ensure quality requirements are properly executed and documented throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Operations & Inspection Support
  • Perform and support in-process, receiving, and final inspections as required.
  • Review drawings, specifications, purchase orders, routers, and customer requirements to determine inspection requirements.
  • Support dimensional inspection using standard inspection equipment and measurement tools.
  • Assist with inspection of composite, machined, bonded, and assembled aerospace components.
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconformances and potential quality issues.
  • Support inspection activities during production and assist with clearing inspection backlogs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete inspection records and objective evidence.
Quality Documentation
  • Review and complete quality documentation, including inspection reports, certificates, travelers, FAIR documentation, and customer-required quality records.
  • Prepare and review documentation packets prior to shipment.
  • Verify required signatures, inspection results, traceability, and supporting documentation are complete.
  • Maintain quality records in accordance with company procedures and AS9100 requirements.
  • Support document retention and organization within applicable quality systems and databases.
Calibration & Measurement Equipment
  • Maintain the company's calibration system and calibration records.
  • Monitor calibration due dates and coordinate calibration of equipment before expiration.
  • Identify and remove expired or suspect measurement equipment from service.
  • Maintain calibration status identification for inspection and production equipment.
  • Support periodic audits of shop‑floor equipment to ensure calibration requirements are being maintained.
  • Assist with investigation and documentation when out-of-calibration equipment is identified.
Nonconforming Material / MRB Support
  • Process and maintain nonconforming material records in the company's quality system.
  • Perform physical identification and movement of material associated with MRB/NCM activities.
  • Ensure NCM tags and documentation are properly completed.
  • Support MRB disposition activities as directed by Quality Engineering or authorized personnel.
  • Coordinate material movement, rework, scrap, and disposition activities.
  • Maintain accurate MRB records and assist with MRB backlog reduction.
Quality System Support
  • Support the Quality Manager and Quality Engineers with AS9100 activities.
  • Assist with internal and external audit preparation and objective evidence collection.
  • Support corrective action and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with maintaining quality procedures, forms, logs, and records.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Support implementation and adherence to company quality procedures.
Production & Cross-Functional Support
  • Work directly with Production and Operations to resolve routine quality issues.
  • Provide timely communication regarding inspection status, material holds, and documentation requirements.
  • Escalate significant quality issues to Quality Engineering or Quality Management.
  • Promote a quality-focused culture throughout the organization.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in quality, inspection, manufacturing, aerospace, or a related technical field.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional inspection equipment and measurement techniques.
  • Ability to interpret customer and manufacturing requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in aerospace or defense manufacturing.
  • Experience working within an AS9100 quality management system.
  • Experience with MRB/NCM processes.
  • Experience managing calibration systems.
  • Experience with FAIR/AS9102 documentation.
  • Experience with CMM, Faro Arm, laser tracker, or other dimensional inspection equipment.
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and inspection.
  • ASQ certification such as Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified Quality Inspector (CQI).
  • Understanding of root cause, corrective action.
Quality Specialist Preferred Education/Experience

Two‑year college degree (technical course work a plus) and/or ASQ Certification
