Job description

THIS IS A 2nd SHIFT POSITION WORKING 2:30PM To 10:30PM

Position Purpose: Performs physical testing on raw materials, work in process, and finished goods to ensure conformance to established specifications or quality standards using destructive and non-destructive testing methods. Analyzes and prepares reports. Calibrates equipment used for testing to ensure that product meets or exceeds specifications and complies with federal, state and local regulations. Audits production processes to ensure compliance with established manufacturing processes and procedures and adherence to Company and customer requirements.

Essential Functions:

  1. Following established procedures, conducts laboratory tests of raw materials and samples. Collect and prepare samples for testing such as cigarette liners, insulation facer, board stock and cable wrap products from the manufacturing process.
  2. Test samples according to established procedures and records results.
  3. Prepare standard reports and communicate deviations to manufacturing.
  4. Develop and maintain in depth knowledge of established Quality procedures of the Quality Management System.
  5. Work with shop floor employees to achieve and maintain compliance to ensure finished products meets Company and Customer requirements.
  6. Identify opportunities to improve process efficiencies and communicate through approved methods.
  7. Participate in and support development and implementation of process improvement initiatives within quality department and throughout plant.
  8. Enter test data into Production Management System (PMS) and generate and email Certificate of Analysis (COA) reports to customers.
  9. Maintain applicable reports and records according to company and customer requirements.
  10. Monitor production processes, assists in detecting defects and non-conformances and reporting to proper personnel.
  11. Assist in quality control studies and audits.
  12. Maintain clean work area, tools and equipment.
  13. Calibrate and maintain laboratory and plant tools and equipment, requesting maintenance support as needed.
  14. Manage disposition of non-conforming materials.
  15. Perform frequent inspections of manufacturing areas, reviewing work in process, incoming raw materials, and equipment condition.
  16. Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures by shop floor personnel, supervisors and support staff.
  17. Identify and report quality issues when found. Correct quality issues within scope of authority.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Must be able to support manufacturing operations active 24/7.
  2. Work safely in a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications & Knowledge:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in Science or technical field preferred. Three years experience in the Quality assurance field or laboratory environment preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  2. Must have mechanical aptitude to operate a variety of precision and mechanical testing equipment, such as tensile and elongation testers, COF and color spectrophotometers.
  3. Must have ability to read and interpret Quality related documents, lab data sheets, Product Specifications, US3, Bill of Materials and Lab test Methods.
  4. Must be able to accurately input data into and analyze data from Quality Management programs.
  5. Must have basic math and measurement skills.
  6. Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office applications.

Critical Skills:

  1. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate across all levels of the company.
  2. Must have problem solving skills to make recommendations for process improvements.
  3. Must have general understanding of Quality principles and the ISO standards.
  4. Must have strong attention to detail to investigate and report on Quality management activities.

Physical Requirements: Typical of those found in an office environment. Occasional exposure to typical hazards found in a manufacturing environment.
