Quality & Safety Field Assistant (Civil Division - Underground Utilities)

Position Summary

Timberline Construction Group is seeking a dedicated Quality & Safety Field Assistant with a strong focus on quality control and safety compliance for our Civil Division, specializing in underground utility projects. This role supports field operations by ensuring all project activities adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced construction environment, demonstrate technical proficiency, and possess a proactive risk management and compliance approach.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Assurance & Control:

  • Support and implement project-specific quality control plans.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Coordinate material submittals, testing, and documentation for underground utilities (storm, sewer, water).
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor performance related to quality deliverables.

Safety Management:

  • Assisted with site safety audits and enforced company and OSHA safety protocols.
  • Help develop and implement site-specific safety plans (SSSPs).
  • Promote a strong safety culture by leading toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Track and report safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions.

Project Support:

  • Assist the Project Manager with RFI creation, change orders, and daily reports.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and as-built drawings throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate with field crews to ensure work aligns with engineered plans and specifications.
  • Communicate proactively with clients, inspectors, and internal teams to resolve quality or safety concerns.
  • Prepare and draft weekly project update reports for PM review.
  • Prepare Project Purchase Requisitions for PM review,
  • Assist with preparing bid proposals for potential projects and/or Change Orders related to existing projects.
  • Review Daily reports and timecards for accuracy of time, quantities, and materials entry.
  • Obtain information from field personnel and assist with developing topics for daily and weekly L10 Planners.
  • Assist in preparing BI-weekly cost projections from HCSS, Cost Reports from Unanet, to develop WPR's for each project.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, ideally in underground utilities
  • Strong understanding of QA/QC processes and OSHA safety standards
  • Proficient in construction software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications
  • Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills- Willingness to travel to project sites across the U.S.
  • MUST be willing to travel
