Job summary

Mactac in Columbus, Indiana is seeking a Quality Lab Technician to perform QC testing of raw materials, compounds, and coated products using standard laboratory equipment and established methods.

You will support Quality and R&D through routine tests and audits, review customer returns, and assist with plant trials. The role requires adherence to specifications, independent work capability, and US work authorization.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; two-year degree preferred with emphasis on Math and Chemistry.
  • 1–3 years of experience in a lab setting or in a quality role.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of personnel.
  • Working knowledge of Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interpret and apply finished product engineering specifications.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing standard laboratory equipment and methods to perform laboratory testing of physical properties of various raw materials, compounds and coated products.
  • Following prescribed test methods with standard equipment of moderate complexity in preparation and evaluation of materials and products.
  • Performing routine QC laboratory tests to determine physical properties and performance.
  • Performing additional testing in support of the Quality department, including claims assessment.
  • Performing additional testing in support of the R&D department, including assisting with plant trials by testing samples in the lab during a trial run.
  • Supporting operations with QC testing including retesting of product on hold for quality defects.
  • Reviewing MRA customer returns as part of the claims analysis, dispositioning and placing finished goods on hold as required.
  • Incoming inspection of purchased products as required.
  • Docking audits for finished goods.
  • Auditing SOPs and checklists as part of the corrective action process.
  • Performs other duties as needed and assigned by supervisor.

Job description

The Quality Lab Technician performs a variety of activities involved in the Quality Control of pressure sensitive products following established methods and procedures. Utilizing standard laboratory equipment and methods to perform laboratory testing of physical properties of various raw materials, compounds, and coated products. Test results are used to compare specifications or performance goals for standard production. Work will follow standardized methods with testing or processing equipment of moderate complexity in the preparation and evaluation of materials and products. Generally, requires management support and supervision to handle intermediate to difficult issues.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Utilizing standard laboratory equipment and methods to perform laboratory testing of physical properties of various raw materials, compounds and coated products.
  • Following prescribed test methods or explicit instructions with standard testing or processing equipment of moderate complexity in the preparation and evaluation of materials and products.
  • Performing routine QC laboratory tests to determine the physical properties and performance of various raw materials, compounds, and coated products.
  • Performing additional testing in support of the Quality department, including claims assessment.
  • Performing additional testing in support of the R&D department, including assisting with plant trials by testing samples in the lab during a trial run.
  • Supporting operations with QC testing including retesting of product placed on hold for quality defects.
  • Reviewing MRA customer returns as part of the claims analysis, dispositioning and placing MRS, finished goods on hold as required.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Two-year degree is preferred with emphasis on Math and Chemistry highly desirable.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience working in Lab setting or in a Quality type position.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact will all levels of personnel within Mactac.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Math skills with emphasis on measurable impact of mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply finished product engineering specifications.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
Scope:
  • Direct Reports: None
  • Physical Requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bench and reach. Must be able to utilize all laboratory equipment (ex. tensile tester, shear tester, rheometer, spectrophotometer, x-ray fluorometer, etc. to determine performance of PSAs). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
