Job Description
Primary Purpose: The purpose of the Quality Inspector I is to verify that incoming, in-process, and outgoing materials and associated quality records meet Facet Technologies and/or Customer quality standards. This includes verifying the condition, quantity, and paperwork related to customer returns and supplied materials. The inspector must be trained and qualified to use various inspection/test equipment and instruments, read and interpret detailed engineering drawings, and operate measuring instruments per internal procedures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Inspect incoming parts and materials to verify they meet specifications using a variety of measuring instruments; maintain records of checked lots or parts. Record receipt data as required.
- Verify the integrity of manufactured parts through inspection according to current specifications with QA instrumentation; review inspection records and tests.
- Inspect manufactured parts at supplier facilities to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Perform visual and functional tests in compliance with GLP, GDP, and GMP requirements.
- Prepare non-conformance reports for parts not meeting specifications.
- Communicate findings effectively through verbal and written reports, including detailed investigations and conclusions.
- Perform material transactions in the inventory management system.
- Maintain calibration and records of gauges and QA instruments.
- Ensure accurate documentation for materials and parts.
- Evaluate returned materials/parts to determine condition and possible damage during shipment.
- Coordinate inspection activities with outsourced inspectors to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Acquire proficiency with new equipment and methods.
- Work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
- Collaborate with others to find innovative solutions.
- Contribute to work instruction development.
- Obtain and maintain ASQ and/or ASME Certified Inspector accreditation(s).
Education:
- Diploma or GED required.
- 2-year technical college degree or 5 years of inspection/test experience; current certifications may substitute for education.
- Certifications from ASQ or Metrology are preferred.
Skills and Experience:
- Ability to read and interpret complex documents and respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
- Basic math skills and application of scientific principles.
- Knowledge of GD&T, tolerances, and metrology concepts.
- Ability to interpret formulas, graphs, and reference standards (ASTM, ASME, ANSI).
- Problem-solving skills involving abstract and concrete variables.
- Good communication skills, frequent standing, walking, sitting, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and work with PPE in noisy environments.
- Visual acuity, including corrected vision for Jaeger 1 and color vision for red/green.
- Exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and noise.
- Proficiency with inspection tools and computer systems.
Work Environment and Safety:
- Adherence to safety protocols, PPE use, and safety performance standards is mandatory.
