Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Engineering Intern in Chicago, IL. Interns perform tasks applying standard engineering techniques, assist lead engineers, and help update designs across market segments.

Responsibilities vary by market, with emphasis on construction phase services, safety, estimating, field operations, and project management. Ideal candidates are pursuing related degrees, with strong communication and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Materials Joining Engineering, Supplier Quality, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Description

Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.


Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:


Construction

The Construction group is responsible for construction phase services in the design-build process and support for safety and health, estimating, pre-construction, field operations, quality and project management. This includes multiple project execution approaches, including self-perform, multi-subcontractor, construction only and program management.


Qualifications


  • Pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Welding Technology, Materials Joining Engineering, Supplier Quality, Engineering or related field.

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.


Compensation

$18.50-36.00 Hourly


The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
