Job summary

SQA Services is seeking a qualified Quality Mechanical Inspector to support our client at supplier sites in the San Jose, CA area. This part-time role requires availability for 2–4 days per week and is on-site, with responsibilities spanning visual, physical, and dimensional inspections per project specs.

Key tasks include performing in-process and final inspections, reviewing FAI documentation, and ensuring GD&T compliance with proper measurement tools.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections in-process and final per project specs.
• Perform witness inspections for critical features and CMM runs.
• Compile inspection sign-off sheets and packages.
• Verify inspection equipment detects defects and aligns with drawing intent.
• Validate execution of inspection plans and document non-conformances with NCRs.
• Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of foreign object debris.
• Ensure proper fastener installation and correct torque stripe color.
• Confirm product workmanship meets specified standards.
• Review and validate FAI documentation for completeness and traceability.
• Protect inspected products for downstream processing and shipment.
• Verify shipping docs include part numbers, serials, and destination.

We are searching for a qualified Quality Mechanical Inspector in the San Jose, CA Area. This is a part‑time opportunity in which you will be supporting our client at one or more supplier sites in and around San Jose, 2 - 4 days/week. This critical role requires an experienced professional with a keen eye for detail and a deep understanding of quality assurance practices. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct visual, physical, and dimensional inspections (both in-process and final) of parts, per project specifications and requirements.
• Conduct in process and final inspections of critical features, including witness inspections (e.g., CMM program run).
• Compile final inspection sign‑off sheets and inspection packages.
• Verify that inspection equipment is capable of detecting defects and ensure inspection methodology aligns with drawing intent.
• Validate the execution of inspection plans as applicable.
• Document non‑conformances using approved methods and submit non‑conformance reports for customer disposition.
• Verify hardware cleanliness and absence of internal or external foreign object debris.
• Verify fasteners are properly installed; assure torque stripe is continuous and of correct color.
• Assure products are free of gaps, mismatches, fairing, and of acceptable contour and waviness.
• Ensure products are of good workmanship and meet specified standards (e.g., oil canning, riding conditions, loose fasteners, drill starts, scratches, dings, burrs, fastener edge distance).
• Review and validate First Article Inspection (FAI) documentation, including completeness, traceability, and compliance.
• Ensure the protection and preservation of inspected products for subsequent processing and shipment.
• Verify applicable shipping documentation for legibility and completeness, including part number, serial number, configuration change letter, and shipping destination.

Required Qualifications

• Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and industry/commodity standards.
• Proficient in GD&T and validating dimensions (tolerances ≥.005”) using hand tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, height gauges).
• Experience with certificates of conformance and inspection documentation.
• Ability to adapt to new technology and software.
• Excellent visual acuity to detect defects in complex products.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working experience with GD&T
• 5 years of experience in the manufacturing industry, with at least 2 years as a Mechanical Inspector.

$30 - $34 an hour

P2P pay and mileage reimbursement at $0.70 per mile driven Untaxed.
