Position Summary

Enforce and understand the Quality Assurance (QA) program to ensure company production complies with customer directives, requirements, and specifications. Strong analytical skills are required. Travel and overtime may be necessary.

Scope
  • Provide sound, independent judgment to support projects and contracts.
  • Resolve issues impacting product quality, delivery, schedules, or costs through interaction with managers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Develop methods and processes to improve safety, quality, production, or reduce costs.
  • Maintain effective communication and interpersonal skills when interfacing with customers and personnel.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Implement an effective QA program meeting all relevant manuals and authority guidance, including SUBSAFE, DSS, DLSS, and others.
  • Perform duties as outlined in the QA Manual and other guidance documents.
  • Maintain personal QA training and qualifications.
  • Verify and witness torqueing evolutions, ensuring documentation and certification.
  • Verify and witness installation of Level 1 Material and ensure proper documentation.
  • Verify and witness testing for REC Certification, documenting correctly.
  • Verify and witness Controlled Assemblies, signing documents to certify work.
  • Update the REC log as assigned.
  • Perform surveillance and audits, ensuring calibration of tools and equipment.
  • Perform QA tasks related to various certifications and ensure documentation compliance.
  • Recommend process improvements to the Quality Program.
Offsite Responsibilities
  • Perform additional tasks such as material handling, TGI reviews, maintaining logs, and conducting audits while maintaining a database.
Other Duties

The QI may perform other projects or duties as needed, including handling materials, reviewing TGIs, maintaining logs, and conducting audits.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

High School/GED with Apprenticeship or military training in mechanical/electrical systems and quality assurance, or supervisory experience in submarine/ship repair.

Required Experience:

  • At least 5 years as a SUBSAFE and Level I QA Inspector, with this experience clearly listed on the resume.
  • At least 3 years inspecting naval ship systems for compliance with specifications and drawings.
  • 5 years of practical shop experience with QA programs, control systems, machining, and procedures.

Preferred Experience:

Knowledge of Deep Submergence Systems, ISO/ASQ QMS, NAVSEA standards, and NSWCPD processes is desirable.
